Warmoth sticker question

Can nitro be sprayed OVER a warmoth sticker?  I was surprised to see these are NOT waterslides.

Thanks

Are there new Warmoth decals now? Besides the chrome ones? They NEED waterslide decals. It would have gone on my LP, no question, if it were a waterslide.

So what IS the Warmoth decal made of? Haven't used one yet, but have been thinking more about doing so...feel kinda like I oughta give credit where it's
due, y'know?

Update...I decided not to wait and sprayed.  So far so good.  Now to let the nitro cure and buff.  No lifting.  I sprayed it on heavy too.

Just as well. You'd have been working the headstock finish for a week trying to bury the sticker they supply now - it's not designed for it. Too thick. Then, chances are pretty good it's a gum-based adhesive so it would probably shrink and crack.

The die-cut metal stickers are pretty attractive. Maybe put one of those on once your finish is cured.

Opps...It did put it on...sorry for the confusion.  It is on the back of the headstock.  Not on the front.  there must be 20 coats of nitro of that.  I really layed it thick.  Not to concerned with completely sinking it since it is on the back.  We will see how it holds up.

I will try to snap some photos.

I've never bought one of those as they include one with every neck you buy. But, unless they're making two versions of the same thing, those aren't waterslides. It's a vinyl decal (sticker), like it says in the description. Peel it off the release paper, and slap it on your bathroom mirror headstock. Looks cheesy in my opinion, but that's just me. I'd prefer they sent waterslides so you'd have something embeddable, but I suppose they wouldn't get used as often.

Here is what I did.  Waterside in front, sticker in back.
Still needs level sand and polish.

Just guessing here, since I've never done it - but I suppose you could sand the edges of the decal extremely cautiously and build up some more lacquer over them.

I think you'd shred a decal if you tried to sand it. You need to bury it in finish, sanding that in between coats until the decal's face and the surrounding finish is at the same level.

I intend to try it before the summer's out, so I'll know better then.

If you've got a LOT of patience, you could cut the excess off from around the graphic. You'd still get a ridge but it would be at the edge of the graphic and not very noticeable. It would be tedious and you'd probably need something like a scalpel to pull it off but it should look pretty nice.

P.S.  you obviously want to do this before you attached it to the headstock.

That is what I am planning on Cagey.  Great minds think alike.  I have 10+ on there now.
What about the water slide line?  I can still see those even on factory Fenders!!!  I guess it will be the same process.  There may always be a faint line.  I think metallics make it more pronounced.

I solved the issue before on another build...with some well placed "RELIC" marks. :laughing8:

OEM guitars are not always the best examples of how to do things. Rarely, in fact. They'll do anything to save a nickel.

If once you get several coats of lacquer on you start sanding in between coats, the finish surrounding the decal will rise to the height of the decal and the outline will disappear. Just be careful not to sand down to the decal or you'll be inventing new cuss words.

Yeah, edges and high points are enough to piss off a saint. I've re-started work on my cranberry black Korina VIP, and you can sand through the finish on that thing just by looking at it wrong.
