They guys I got a Q for ya. I just bought a Warmoth SG swap ash body with a Floyd rose original a locking nut, grover tuners, an LP warmoth neck with MOP dot inlays and a birdseye maple fret board. And im pretty sure that they are Duncan hums. Im almost sure that this is the guitar that is in the photo gallery in the aged with color. Anyway are the body or neck serialized so that I can tell when it was built? And also I dont think that it is grounded properly cause there is a hum when it is plugged in and when I touch the trem or strings the hum goes away any thoughts? By the way this guitar is killer and Im buying and building another for sure just dont know what yet with so many options to chose from. Thanks

...uh, thanks anyway Pete.  (refers to a deleted post.)

Moving along.

First of all, welcome!

No, Warmoth parts do not have serial numbers.  You might be able to get a vague idea of how old it is anyway, as various features get introduced and discontinued over time.  Pictures might help, including the heel of the neck and the neck pocket.

If it's in the gallery, Warmoth might be able to tell you how old it is.

Oh, and did I mention PICTURES??  We like seeing guitars.  :icon_thumright:

Welcome Murdock!  Warmoth gets this question often so I don't blame you for asking. So far Warmoth doesn't have serial numbers that refer to the date of manufacture on the parts but there has been discussion internally about doing that.

Woops.

Apologies to those who read my original post in this Thread, it has now been deleted. And I apologise to the OP for such a poor attitude in my original post.

We all have those days... hell, I'm having one today, which is why I was so pissy myself.  No worries... we're a big happy family!  :)

Gregg, I think serial numbers would be a nice feature.  But not as nice as bound headstocks... let's keep our priorities straight.  :D

If the hum goes away when touching the metal hardware or strings, I'd say it's grounded fine.  It sounds like a shielding issue.  Shield the body cavity as much as possible with a conductive material;  copper tape, shielding paint, even foil.  Some people even do the tunnels from control cavity to pickup cavity.  To me that's overkill because most pickup conductors when bundled are shielded.  If the pickups are open coil, there's not much you can do for that short of a metal pickup cover.  Don't forget to bond or mechanically connect shielded cavities to ground via screw and wire or solder.  If that's not done, it's pointless to shield.  Good luck, and as stated above, we like pictures.

Thats a great idea about the painted headstock. I wonder how I can match the color so that I can paint it myself.  The finish looks factory so, I am thinking that the finish was done by warmoth before being sent out.

I'm thinking some black pickup covers would do some good. Otherwise, very nice! I have a bias towards covered HBs. I'm fine with singles, thankfully.
