Warmoth raises shipping prices? Yes or no?

I just spec'd out a Tele neck w some bells n whistles. $612. Okay, I can do that. Then add the tax $60. Ugh. THEN, they want $48 UPS shipping and I only live 48 miles North of Warmoth! Necks were always $20-$25 to ship. My last neck ordered was in late Fall '24. The UPS shipping then was $23.32. Why is it now more than double 7 months later? The fees and the add ons just keep goin up and up...

Yeah, I about crapped myself when I ordered a body and bridge two days ago. A little over sixty bucks for UPS from Washington to Iowa. Since I didn't really have any other way to receive the products, I just bent over and took what was coming to me. After it was over I said, "thank you, sir ... when can I get my next treatment?". Well, it turns out that today was the day. Another sixty plus for UPS to ship a neck and some small accessories. It is what it is, I guess. At least I don't have to deal with international shipping charges. From what I have gathered, that is a truly brutal situation.

I heard that ups was laying off people due to lack of business. They say its amazon bringing shipping in house ... at first i thought those amazon trucks looked cute and with a friendly face but now I'm not so sure ...

Have you REALLY had a look at the "smile" logo? I am pretty sure they borrowed a page from "Rigid tools" brand.

I can purchase any Warmoth body and they ship locally to me, 48 miles away via UPS Ground, in one day and it now costs $58, when it was usually just under $30 for years. About a 100% increase in shipping price for WA State buyers. That's nice. If I live in New Jersey, that same body ships for $66 and takes 5 -7 days. Doesn't stop me from ordering whatever I want, but now I just have to go to the Indian Casinos and play blackjack now to cover the $100 overages in Tax and overinflated shipping prices. Wonder what Aaron Cheney would say? He did live here, but was smart and got out...

Might be one of these egregious WA State taxes for Warmoth... we do have the highest gas prices because this state charges an extra 55 cents per gallon to us residents. Stupid...

Well, with Washington state raising the highest gas tax in state history, you can bet that the carriers are raising rates, which will pass on to shippers, and ultimately the end user. You can’t expect a merchant to eat that difference if the already small profit margin is going to decrease.

Yes, thank-you.

Warmoth is never the one who raises shipping prices.

Warmoth also includes insurance on every shipment, so if your $800 custom body gets lost by UPS or USPS, you are not out the money and your new guitar. This insurance is based on dollar value of your order, which is why you see the increase on more expensive orders.

Yep! it costs money to ship stuff, and shipping costs continue to spiral upwards LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.
And yep, hunnerdbux-PLUS to ship my last order!!! 💰

Kinda "a bit of a first-World problem", considering we're shopping at Warmoth so that we can eventually assemble custom-to-our-personal-spec electric guitars that eventually run about $1-2K on average (no, you don't put bargain basement junk parts on your Warmoth, do ya??)
That's my take on it, anyway...

Hmm. But the doubled up shipping price tho... mehhh. Like most of us in here that have been purchasing for many years and even decades, some of us that knew Ken fairly well, it just feels strange in a way. What's an extra $50? Nothing. $100? Same. We like what we like from Warmoth and continue to buy. The days of a body and a neck for around $400 are long extinct. Time marches on and everything gets more expensive, but we earn more as well. So we got that goin for us!

I'm pretty used to taking time to build up order quantity to offset the cost of shipping. I've been mail ordering electronic components this way since the late 90s and I'm still in this habit despite Mouser only charging $7.99 minimum per order. I'm not from the old guard like many of you seem to be but both of my recent orders seemed pretty reasonable - $70 to ship two bodies (to NYC), and $120 to ship two necks + two bodies + myriad of other things (To Cleveland). I guess buy in bulk to offset that initial minimum cost... tough to do when you really just want that one showcase VIP that you know someone else will buy if you don't.

If anyone has ever made and sold anything, shipping is not where one should be seeking profit. If one does, then one has a flawed business model. While the sticker shock is an eye-opener for us consumers, I understand just barely enough of the business model that WM is probably just as disheartened over increasing shipping cost as we.

Because they, unfortunately, are the ones who have to hear our griping. What does UPS care?

Even then, carriers have a business model also, and if they have to pay more for fuel, and road use taxes, you can bet they are going to pass that along as well so that their minimal profit margin remains in tact. I say this as I was transportation dispatcher for 17 years and a terminal manager for a few. Overhead is high, profits are low.
