It all started so innocently, I wanted to get a new body and neck for the pickups in my favorite strat-a-like guitar. It's a Peavy with 4 single coils, two of which are wired together on a coil tap switch. For reference, there's one like it for sale on ebay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/Peavey-Predator-Guitar-USA-Made-White-w-Coil-Tap-/160428052009. I've had this guitar for the last 15 years and I love the way it plays and sounds, but not how it looks.
Anyway, that was a few weeks ago. I started looking at the stratosphere on ebay and then stumbled upon Warmoth and this site. One week later I've got two bodies and two necks on order. Note that my Pevaey has a very thin neck that I like a lot and my USA deluxe strat has a thicker neck (C shape) and it's not as comfortable to me. Also, note, I love big ass CBS headstocks.
Here's the plans:
Build 1: New home for Peavey pups
Body: Zebrawood top on chambered alder strat body. Fender USA standard hardtail. Mary Kay finish on top and back
Neck: AAA birdseye maple back and fretboard, CBS fender headstock, 1 5/8" nut width, 10"-16" fingerboard, wizard profile, satin vintage finish, scahller locking tuners
Pickups: single coils from my Peavey, black pickguard, black pickup and switch covers
Build 2: Billy Corgan strat recration
Body: AAA Flame maple top on solid alder strat body. Fender USA standard hardtail. Dyed brown top, transparent brown back
Neck: AAA Flame maple back and fretboard, CBS fender headstock, 1 5/8" nut width, 10"-16" fingerboard, wizard profile, satin clear finish, scahller locking tuners
Pickups: BC-1, Chopper, BC-2, black pickguard, black pickup and switch covers
I couldn't be more excited to build these two. I'll post pics when the wood arrives and also when the builds are done.
