Volume pots work, tone pot simply lowers volume - Seymour Duncan

Hi everyone,

I just wired up my Warmouth bass with Seymour Duncan Bass Line pickups.

Both volume pots work , but the  tone pot only lowers the volume, does not effect tone.

Any suggestions on what I may have done wrong? Any classic mistakes?

Hmmm,

When I removed the tone pot and let it hang outside the bass, it worked fine.

Looks like the capacitor wire on the tone pot was touching the wall copper shielding - it think that was the culprit.

I put a small piece of electrical tape over that area of the shielding ( where the capacitor wire presses against it)  and this solved the problem.

Wish I understood electronics.

Sounds like the cap was shorted or leaky, so all the tone pot was doing was decreasing the output impedance over all frequencies.
