Vintage Tint

This seems to be something of a perennial discussion but I wanted to check I had the latest information.

I'm thinking of getting an all-birdseye neck to replace the maple/rosewood neck on my current Tele. It's Sonic Blue and the colour would go really well with vintage tint gloss as pictured here:

But it seems some people are unhappy with their tint, saying it's too orange.

Is that still the case or is it more consistent these days?

Maybe everyone can just post outdoor pictures of their vintage tint necks and I can have a look...  :glasses10:

I feel that it's too orange/yellow from those pics.  I'd go clear gloss.  I have that on my mahogany neck, but pics of that won't be useful here.

I tinted  my AAAA birdseye Warmoth Tele neck that color  for my trans blue quilted maple Tele .. love it.

I reckon Clear Satin would look better with the Blue.  :icon_thumright:  ... just me thou  :tard:
Or go a RAW neck  :dontknow:

NOTE ... that they don't look as yellow as the showcase pic's are ..... just a thought too !!
That 1st neck pic's is as smooth as a RAW neck VERY nice indeed  :toothy10:

Think that's what the OP wants to see ..... PIC'S    :eek:ccasion14:

Thanks, that's awesome. You're right, I wasn't so much asking which would look nicer with SB as asking how close to the pictures the Vint Tint necks are. Those photos have really helped and I feel comfortable going with the tint now. Thanks!

Haha, I just went and looked at some clear gloss showcase necks. They're awesome too. Still I'm in no rush, I'll decide at some point.

Just get an unfinished neck and do it yourself. A rattle can each of ReRanch Fender Neck Amber and Deft gloss or satin nitro and you're good to go.

Using the Fender Neck Amber, you control how "orange"/dark the vintage tint is, as the more you lay down the "oranger"/darker the tint gets.

On the other hand, a $7 can of Deft gloss or satin is all you need for a clear finish...

Knowing that the necks do look roughly like the showcase necks, I was able to make a mockup of my tele, matching the colour (you'll notice it's not really an exact Sonic Blue), and see which I liked better.

I really, really like both. I think the vintage tint is more what I had in mind so I'll probably go with that, but I think they both look great actually.

Ummmm .... I think the one on the left just blends in much better.
Looks mellow but ready to rumble  :icon_biggrin:

If it was more sonic blue (brighter) then the right one would probably look better.

+1 Left side

I agree on the mellow thing. Looks lovely.

It is actually slightly brighter but I couldn't get the image colour to reflect that on screen. I'll go with the vintage tine, I think, but I can totally see why anyone would choose either!

In my experience (which is limited) the vintage tint looks more "genuine" on a gloss finish than a satin one.

I think the Vintage Tint neck will look great on any guitar provided the guitar body is either tinted darker or painted opaquely.  I have a VT Gloss neck and it doesn't mate well with CLear mahogany back.  In hindsight, I should've chosen Transparent Brown for the back hehe.

Guys, don't take this as any kind of attack, but some of you are answering a question I didn't ask! I was asking how close to the photo in the original post the vintage tint is, in real life. I wasn't asking which finish I should get! Although I have to admit, you made me think I was for a minute!

^^ lol

Never ask musicians for opinions and expect us to stay on target.  It makes you wonder how companies run by people like us ever make it.
