If you are ever thinking about vintage tinting a maple neck this will give a good idea of what Zinsser Amber Shellac will do for you.
I’m killing two birds with one stone here. First I had to match the headstock on the one neck to Warmoth’s vintage tint on the rest of the neck, the headstock had been sanded through and needed to be repaired. The second one is to help make a decision on how dark a customer wants his vintage tint to be. Sorry about the couple of blurry pictures I did not know my batteries were going dead but you can still get a good idea of the progression of the color change as each coat is added.
Here are the necks.
Everything taped and only the face ready for color.
One coat of shellac.
Second Coat
Third coat.
Its a match in three.
