Absolutely. Intonation and so forth will be fine. But, if you're going to build something new, why not avoid the mistakes of the past? The 6 point vibrato bridge is a bad design. Always has been and always will be for mechanically provable and experiential reasons. If you're trying to impress somebody, show 'em that you know better. The two-point knife-edge fulcrum is a vastly superior design. Of course, it's not what Jimi Hendrix used, but he didn't have any choice. If her were alive today, he'd say "Don't be a fool, y'idiot!"
You combine an LSR nut, locking tuners and a two-point trem, and you've got something you can wank and crank on all night. That's a good setup, and unlike the Floyd Rose nightmare, you don't need carry around a mechanic's tool chest to keep the thing in line or change strings.

The strat and the tele are both over 50 yrs old, so what's the difference. Floyd has made improvements, the Fastloader doesn't need to snip string ball ends. Not anymore complicated than any other trem, I've had them all, and if set up properly as any trem, one is really no greater than another... :icon_biggrin:Cagey said:DangerousR6 said:Hey, hey, hey, don't be bagging on Floyds... :toothy12:
Well, I hate to bang on them for the same reason I'd hate to bang on a '70 Challenger. But, the simple fact of the matter is, it's a design that's well past its prime. It's a very sexy and high-performance part, but there's much better stuff available now. It's a 35+ year old design, and improvements have been made since then.
Thanks Cagey I've owned numerous guitars over the years with different tremolo systems. I had an Ibanez RG when I was in my twenties, loved that guitar overall. Shoved a wooden block into the back of the tremolo cos I was so sick of all the adjustment required to it. I see Fender have released a new Dave Murray signature guitar at NAMM 2015, I love Iron Maiden! Great pickups on it etc but the only thing preventing me buying that guitar is that shitty Floyd trem.Cagey said:johnny35 said:Okay so here's my question for today, my American Deluxe strat has a 2 point pivot tremolo with an LSR nut. The Floyd is coming to get you Cagey... :evil4:Cagey said:mark1178 said:I bet Cageys nightmares consist of a Floyd Rose hovering over him saying "I'm the only bridge left in the world" like that creepy puppet from the progressive commercials.
Hehe! No, I don't have nightmares about them. I install and set them up all the time. I just don't think they're the best solution available for those who want vibrato capabilities.
I have had some weird nightmares, though, and not necessarily at night. Some of the drugs they'll feed you in the hospital are magical :icon_biggrin:

I beg to differ, not everything that can be done has been. You or I or whomever just hasn't done it yet...Street Avenger said:I hate "tremolos" (which are not really tremolos at all...Leo Fender just incorrectly named his vibrato bridge that). I never used the ones that I have, and since I'm not Hendrix, EVH, Vai, or Satriani, there's no point in having one.
A listen to Jake E. Lee or Paul Gilbert proves how needless they are, and everything that can be done with them has already been done...and Done...and DONE.
I love my new Warmoth "hardtail" Strat (and it has locking tuners). The guitar should be played with the fingers, not a damned wang-bar.
