Good idea, most of my guitars that have Floyds that I have built don't have the recess. But the ones that do are my Jacksons, and I typically just put felt in them.. :dontknow:

maybe if you're not into the bad@$$ flutter effect, it might reduce that sort of thing if you're still into agressive divebombs. i guess it might also stop the plate from snapping back and banging into the recess real hard if you let go of the bar while it's down really far. just #spitballing  i sincerely doubt anyone would notice any significant 'dampening' of tone, lol - it's like vampires, how do they go out at night if the moon reflects sunlight? in the end, who cares.

I think Ibanez used to spray something black in there. Maybe shielding paint or just truck bed liner. At least my fuzzy memory of my RG550 had it.

I do it because it makes it look finished. MANY other manufacturers also do it. I've seen it on ESP, Aria, Ibanez, Westone, and lots of other brands. Read through the comments on that video and you'll see lots of people saying "my -insert brand name here- also came with that from the factory".


It makes absolutely zero difference in the sound of anything...that I can hear. The rout is very deep, and the foam doesn't interfere with or even come close to touching the Trem. Like, ever.
