Yes. Someone has a build with the output jack in the rear route cover.  It's a great idea depending on body style and how you wear it.
 
That's quite ingenious, IMO.  There's no room on the top in vintage location, which with a straight jack always looks like an afterthought, and a throwback on a modern instrument.  The pots would clash with internal realestate with a side jack.  Though not the norm, I've seen that jack location on more progressive builds.  Like Line6man, I think the angle should be facing the the strap button.  Location isn't really a hinderance.
