Unofficial Warmoth Haiti Relief Project?

Hey I was just thinking about our raffle, and I was wondering if we could figure out a way to do something similar where we would end up sending a major chunk of the proceeds to Haiti relief.  Like maybe if several of us have an extra guitar related thing sitting around that they don't need (example: I have an extra copy of Zen Guitar and some misc. small parts), we could gather it all together as a grab bag kind of thing and sell raffle tickets for that.

I'm just thinking out loud, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

I think it's a nice idea, but there are already a lot of ways to give to Haiti without raffling and whatnot. At least in NYC, I get hit up for Haiti relief almost daily.

Yeah, but I was thinking something that is a lot more fun than just writing a check.  :icon_biggrin:

There was a guy on TalkBass selling a distortion pedal and donating 100% of the money to Haiti. That's kind of cool.

Hmm, well, I've got some Strat knobs, a Strat jackplate, some 3/5 way switch tips, some strap buttons and a whammy bar (I believe it's a Floyd Rose bar, without the locking ring thingy.) that I'd throw in.
*Maybe* a guitar tuner, because I might be buying a rack tuner for my home studio.
Perhaps maybe a 3 hole Jazz bass control plate, and a 4 hole plate that's in less than perfect cosmetic condition.
I've also got a Squier Jazz bass neck pickup, but I'm wondering if I better hold onto it.

The problem of course is with shipping costs to get the stuff to whoever is doing the raffle.
Any ideas?

You know, I'd really like to see us as a community regularly support charities in some way.  I'd love to do a raffle to build a guitar for sale and then donation, or even just have periodic donation drives to support a charity or two who use the money well and do good work.

Yeah, seriously Mark.  There are lots of things we could be doing that would be fun for us that would also give us some cash to donate to charity.

I think it's really great that so many people are helping the Haiti earthquake victims now, but I hope that the funding holds out for a while because in a few months when all the people who have had limbs amputated are somewhat recovered, they are going to need prosthetics, and those aren't cheap.  It would royally suck to be missing a leg and not have any prosthetic or wheel chair.  I'm kind of curious if that foundation that Paul McCartney's ex-wife started is going to help with that.  I think they usually help amputees in Africa.  I might be totally remembering things wrong though.  There are also tons and tons of kids who are now orphaned.

The only problem I see with this is.....Warmoth's cost more to build then their resale; so unless people are willing to pay more then normal for a completed Warmoth we would be upside down.

What I have often wanted to do was buy a unfinished warmoth and commision local artist with big names (localy Wyland is pretty big) and have them donate there time to paint it they auction it off and donate all the proceeded to some sort of music charity. I think this is very doable and would great to be a part of.

Yeah, great idea.  We should keep brainstorming until we can find something that we can make work for us.  We're blessed enough to be able to have a hobby/love like this, and it would be great to share the fruits of those blessings.

You can also call World Vision at 1-800-777-5777, we've been on the ground there for over 30 years, and have already airlifted more than 9 cargo loads of supplies since the disaster.  More info at www.worldvision.org.
