Unofficial W: desktop vs iPad

Anyone else seeing the board here look a little different on iPad vs a desktop browser?  I've been lurking sporadically from work (IE7 on xp - yes, it sucks), but had occasion to look something up at home on the iPad, and suddenly, I see that the guitar of the month is back, and Hannaugh's short scale j is there (still showing Max's Tonarcaster here).  On top of that, a quick poke through of the threads shows many pics (linked and attachments) that don't show up on IE7, but do on iOs, and vice versa.  ???

Explanations?  Wild speculations?  I don't think it's premature to blame those devious Canadians for this, but I'm open to Sasquatch culpability as well.

. . . and now, while nothing else has changed, the GOM at the top now shows Hannaugh's J as soon as I posted the above.  Weird.

The Illuminati?  Internet Gremlins?  Xenu?

Broken cache in your browser. Flush and try again.

+ maybe your workplace blocs off some of those picture sites.  :dontknow:

Internet Exploder vs. any other browser on the planet? Yeah, there's a difference. Every other browser on the planet works for you rather than against you.

Worst. Browser. Ever.

Bar none.

Not only that, it only runs on the worst OS extant.

But, you knew that. You're just still harboring hope, like a long-term yearning for your first love that won't die until you do.

Plus, your employer likely has you on an intranet that's being heavily filtered in a futile effort to protect your Windows-infected computers from the Girl Scouts who could compromise them in 30 seconds or less.

Get over it. All things Microsoft suck flyblown seeping herpes-blistered donkey schlong. Even rotten Apples are better.

Well, that's not entirely true. Their software development environments are fantastic. It's too bad they're Windows-centric.

You either have a short memory or don't get out much. :)

Both true.

I suffered a traumatic brain injury some time back, and my short-term memory is pitiful. I can't even read much any more. Can't remember what I read two pages back, which makes following a story or theme or idea a real chore. Prior to that, I'd read a couple hundred books a year. Now, I struggle with a couple.

A great deal of my long-term memory is just gone. Or, more to the point - inaccessible. It seems the memories are still there, but they need reconnection. Kinda like re-formatting a FAT filesystem: the files are still there somewhere, but the pointers are gone. Sometimes the connections are repaired by some different association, and the knowledge comes back. Unfortunately, it can't be forced.

I also lost a certain amount of muscle control, mainly on my left side, so I have some trouble getting around. Then there's the trauma-induced epilepsy, which has thankfully diminished to near non-existence, but still keeps me from driving.

Finally, I'm missing most of my right lung, so breathing is something I can't take for granted.

So, yeah. I don't get out much.

But, I was an ace programmer for most of my career, so I got the computer thing down. I was wire-wrapping the things to life before the PC was ever introduced, or Microsoft even existed. While I was a developer, it was mostly embedded systems stuff that would run on either obscure real-time operating systems or whatever MS was offering at the time. I am still passingly familiar with computers.

I know IE and Windows have improved in recent years, but that's like saying the various cancer treatments have improved. They have, and many cancers are survivable now, but your best bet is to not engage in cancer-causing behavior.

Worst. Disease. Ever.

My iPad is pretty consistent, as long as Flash software is not used.

Right. As long as you're miserable and compromised, Apple would prefer to spy on you themselves rather than let Adobe do it and then turn around and charge them for the information.

There are effective alternatives out there, but I don't know if they work on an iPad. You might want to look into Gnash or Lightspark to see if they have versions for you. In any event, it appears Flash is going tits-up as a result of the new(ish) HTML5 spec, so it won't be an issue for long anyway.

Actually, it really hasn't been an issue for me.  Not all sites use Flash technology, so it's far & few between in my experience.

most major websites have a flash free ios friendly version due to the popularity of the iphone. apples bullshit is accommodated by the world because they have good marketing strategies. part of the advantage of ios is the universal acceptance of it's disadvantages! f@ck apple those thieving law suit happy arseholes! html5 is much better for mobile devices anyway but the ios friendly stuff was already popular the iphone 3g came out

as far as alternative to apple in mobile and ms in desktops im not sure. the us cell phone market is screwed up. nokia makes some of the best mobile devices, not the fastest or most media friendly but as far as the package you get they are good because they are simple stable and take pretty good pictures too, they havent sold much in america because they dont use android and americans dont know what meego or symbian are. what we do get are android platforms raped with proprietary parts and poor interfaces in an attempt to have brand identity and be clever, one manufacturer has bloated interfaces and horrific battery life, another never gets updates, and another seems to only release there good devices on one service provider. and with desktops, well the free software movement has produced many good distros that can be installed on the majority of the hardware out there with a full software package so you wont miss anything. but that's part of the problem. there are soo many distros and package systems and each distro has there own spin on configureation files and path files and groups so things get screwwy, an easy job on one distro might be a lot of manual editing on another. it's hard to recomend anything to anyone even though i think the free systems even with their problems are still far better than microsoft and apple just not as universal.

Website on 'devices' is hit and miss. I have Opera, Dolphin and the stock browser on my android devices. Some sites work better in one browser and some better in another. But in general I don't browse websites on my phone unless they have an 'app' like Strat-talk and TDPRI, or the website supports forum runner software like Tapatalk.

But I will say that the Warmoth site renders nicely on a mobile device.

I'd love to see Tapatalk support for Unofficial W.
