I know this was stated somewhere before but will an oil finish suffice to keep the warranty for necks. I've got a maple neck with maple board.I'm leaning toward Danish oil followed by a wipe-on poly for the neck and body. Or would tung oil work better?
Nope, Tung Oil will void the warranty, I'm not sure about Danish Oil. I know that Tru Oil is classed as a poly finish as it dries hard so the warranty remains intact. However, I'm from the UK I'm not sending my neck back anywhere anyway so I'm not bothered about warranties: I go for the nicest finish and thats Tung Oil in my opinion.
Also a few things to consider:
Warmoth themselves say on the site that only 10% of oil finished necks are ever returned due to warpage.
If you have a quartersawn its not going to warp anyway.
If you have a boatneck or something thicker than a standard thinline its just as unlikely.
If its Warmoth pro it probably won't either
Tung Oil, if applied properly provides a water proof neck: thus eliminating the main reason for warpage: moisture
Tung Oil is the most "bare wood" feeling finish you'll find. Ie. VERY nice for necks. My Maple/Maple neck is feeling absolutely stunning after starting again and doing it properly. Follow CBs advice and you'll have something that feels far superior to anything off the peg you can buy in guitar shops.
