tung oil vs. danish oil

Seems like the Danish Oil might keep the wipe on poly from adhering correctly unless you let it completely dry all the way out, which could take some time and defeat your purpose anyway. Even though it's not technically covered by warrnty, if you applied enough coats of tung oil properly to a neck, I don't see how you could ever get enough moisture absorbtion through the barrier it would provide to create a warping problem due to finish that would require a warranty return anyway.

I know this was stated somewhere before but will an oil finish suffice to keep the warranty for necks. I've got a maple neck with maple board.I'm leaning toward Danish oil followed by a wipe-on poly for the neck and body. Or would tung oil work better?

Nope, Tung Oil will void the warranty, I'm not sure about Danish Oil. I know that Tru Oil is classed as a poly finish as it dries hard so the warranty remains intact. However, I'm from the UK I'm not sending my neck back anywhere anyway so I'm not bothered about warranties: I go for the nicest finish and thats Tung Oil in my opinion.

Also a few things to consider:

Warmoth themselves say on the site that only 10% of oil finished necks are ever returned due to warpage.
If you have a quartersawn its not going to warp anyway.
If you have a boatneck or something thicker than a standard thinline its just as unlikely.
If its Warmoth pro it probably won't either
Tung Oil, if applied properly provides a water proof neck: thus eliminating the main reason for warpage: moisture
Tung Oil is the most "bare wood" feeling finish you'll find. Ie. VERY nice for necks. My Maple/Maple neck is feeling absolutely stunning after starting again and doing it properly. Follow CBs advice and you'll have something that feels far superior to anything off the peg you can buy in guitar shops.

Can I ask you where in the UK you purchase your Tung oil, and what brands are available. Thanks.

If you abuse the neck and subject it to extreme moisture contact and/or volatile temperature variations I don't know that any of those statements would be true....

Amazon.co.uk mate! Seriously I'd say unless there is a specialist wood shop near you go online, the stuff is rare in this country. Furniture makers and Carpenters don't really like tung oil cos its SLOW.
The one I'm currently using is Liberon Pure Tung oil. Its definately the real all natural nutty stuff you need. Remember, and I really can't say this enough, THIN, THIN THIN coats, building up slowly.

I am having trouble finding the Tung oil here in Spain so I thought it would be easier to get it from UK, need to check with Amazon, when you say thin you mean with regular thiners? Thanks.

I think he meant thin coats, but some people has noted the first coats are easier applied if the tung oil is thinned a bit with mineral spirits/naptha/something similar.

I never thin the first coats; it takes a LOT longer for those to dry, but if you want to fill the korina grain and get a good gloss shine w/o any graining it will take a lot less coats, although you will have to wait a lot longer for the coats to dry until you get the grain filled in.....

Sorry my mistake I see what was meant now, reading the post again. Just checked a few online shops, it seems they cannot ship Tung oil due to some delivery restrictions , I will have to continue my search a bit closer to home.

I've heard someone else on here from Europe (can't remember where) uses Liberon Tung Oil so I'm guessing it should be available somewhere in Spain.

I supose it should be available somewhere in Spain, have treid a few places and no sign of it, a bit of a mystery really on this side. :icon_scratch:
