Tuners and strings for 8-string bass?

Has anyone built an 8-string? They look like they have 4 bass tuners, and 4 guitar tuners for the high octave strings but I'm not 100% sure.

Also, what strings would I use for the highs - thin bass strings? Baritone guitar strings? I see sets of 6 and 7 at Guitar Center, but no sets of 8.

Not sure about tuners, but for strings, something like these would be good.
