....to see how it is received. A little free songwriting instruction for the masses. I've got a few in the can, and we'll see how it goes on my fledgling YouTube channel.

Anyways:

Lyrics are poetry, and vise versa. Only difference is, one is set to external music and the other uses our internal rhythm. Yes/No?

. OK, with lyrics you have to choose your words a little differently to allow for the melody.

Couldn't find that one but I did just order Step By Step songwriting by the same author.

As Yitzhak Rabin said, when asked the difference between a fiddle and a violin,"It depends on who's playing it."

Anyone trying to find that book it's actually now called "Songwriting Step by Step, by Aaron Cheney"

I have a song I've been working at off and on for a while. And I have no chorus.
Every time I've tried to write one I end up writing and tossing another verse. So I'm waiting on AAA to become a respected song form.

Check out Endless Ways by Anathema. Dunno if it's exactly AAA, but it's pretty close.

Metaphor and Simile...Didn't they do a Captain and Tenille impersonation act in the 90's...? :headbang:

I'm loving these song writing videos. I tried song writing in the past and totally sucked at it. Your explanations not only give direction but put fun into it.

Thanks for video 'Last +1'

Awesome!  Aaron, I could so see you reading Christmas tales to your family gathered around a fireplace!

Thanks guys. Here's another one for y'all:

Fred Rogers (yes, Mr Rogers) spoke at my college graduation. And he told a story about playing a song he'd written for one of his heroes. And he asked them "How many songs have you written?" I forget his answer but the response was "Come back when you've written 300."

My problem is I'm stuck on #5 and I feel like it's got too much grab to be #5, and I really want it to be #300.
