true temperment neck!?!

Ehm - no? Has anyone actually visited the website to begin with?

Since temperament is not fixed, they have several different variations depending on your needs; variations that benefit different keys. Just choose the one that suits your needs. The keys that benefit less don't sound out of tune, or they wouldn't be selling these necks would they? To me guitars sound out of tune already, so any change would be for the better...

From the FAQ, to dispel some stuff written here previously:

"What happens when True Temperament guitars are used with other guitars, bass, piano etc?
Our 12-Tone Equal Temperament versions tune considerably better against keyboards than "ordinary" guitars.
Against other guitars they can highlight the tuning problems which plague "ordinary" guitars - the problems
which True Temperament was developed to solve. The effect is seldom disturbing, however, it manifests itself
as a sort of "chorusing".

Our Well tempered versions work just fine together with "ordinary" instruments. The offsets from Equal
Temper are not so severe that they normally create dissonance. Each Well temperament has its own unique
personality which never sounds "wrong", on the contrary they enrich the musical interplay. One could describe
them as different dialects of the same musical language.

Meantone Blues is a special case, and is not intended for use with instruments in other temperaments. "

I don't mean to sound like an advert, but TT necks make a lot of sense to me.

It looks like they have necks idealized for guitar keys, horn keys, 12-tone ET tuning, and a few different tempered-tuning keys. The only one that would be worth anything to me would be the 12-tone one, as I take Ted Greene's dictum pretty seriously - if playing a tune is boring, play it in a different key! All of a sudden, it's interesting again.... If you look at the picture, it basically just compensates the third string:

Just like an Earvana & a BRIDGE ADJUSTMENT, whoa. I always keep at least one guitar around with a wound G for when I want to play in tune anyway, if you're having problems tracking chords in the studio this is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Whoa. You have to substitute up at least .002" in size, a .020" wound subs for a .017" unwound etc. Just don't try to bend it, it will take till next week. :sad1:

Very true... Though it gets tricky if you're a gun for hire and the singer can't sing in that key. Especially if they want to do a song that's originally in E, in D or Eb - ugh! An effective way to castrate a song with balls...

Warmoth makes the necks for them, so no worries there:

We've got a TT neck on a guitar at the shop.  It plays quite well.  Bending is no problem and there's no difference in playing.  Pretty impressive really.

I must concur, one of the guys took it home & said for the first time it actually sounded like the recorded guitar was in tune with keyboard tracks.  That was one of the nicer strat setups I've encountered.
