Tru-Oil on frets?

So this should be a simple one for someone out there. If I were to get a all maple neck with the frets, can I just tru-oil/tung oil over everything like they would spray clear? Then remove the stuff off the frets later?

It would be easier to wipe any Tru-oil that got on the fret off before it dried, but you could scrape it after your done. Keep in mind that coats of Tru-oil should be applied very thinly...

When I did my Tele neck (Birdseye/Birdsye w/ SS frets) with Tru-oil, it didn't even build up enough to notice.
