Tru-Oil on black korina?

The corner that's not white is tru oil on top of black korina. The rest has a white wash between the korina and tru oil.

My neck is korina.  I grain filled slightly with pore filler tinted black and covered with tru oil and wax.

Love it, that wood combination and grain filling give it a real nice rustic look!

The body looks like Swamp Ash, did you use a dark stain (Walnut?) on it with dark grain filling ?
That's a perfect match for the neck.

THank you!  It's definitely an ash body

I used minwax ebony stain added to ole masters oil based grain filler.  THey recommend a ratio of 2:1 filler to stain, but I was probably closer to 1:1.  Looking back I'd probably try to stain the filler some other way so it doesn't get quite so diluted.  I think I did 2 or 3 goes at it, and it probably could have used another 2 to be completely filled, but I like the way it turned out so I stopped.

After that I just sanded it back.  The top is tru oil which yellowed it up a bit.  The body was the first time I ever used tru oil, so its a bit shinier than I would like.  I'll use a scotch brite pad to take it down a bit.  The neck is like butter.  I really like the tru oil + feed n wax combo.

Here are some picks from my last build. Let me know if you have any questions. I didn't pore fill just wiped on tru oil about 5 coats and them I applied two wipe on poly coats.

Very nice. It looks like you did a bit of extra routing for that forward pot (vol probably?). I like the tortoise control plate.

Yes, the project got kind of tricky. I wanted to get all fancy with extra options as far as tone but I finally had to throw in the towel and just wired it up like a jazz bass. I did have to customize the pick guard. I think it looks kind of cool with the stereo knobs. It sounds great too.

Yes, that's just right with those knobs. Something else may not give it the classy look it has now.

Yes, awhile back I just purchased a bunch of knobs and pick guards its really the way to go its amazing how the little things matter. I had the same knobs in black but the silver just did it for me. You can also justify another built when you have all the parts ready right. Yes, I had to extend the route cavity now I own a router and can route.  :turtle:
