Trimming stick-on decals

I've found that trimming the excess film on sliders(decals) looks better.  I'm just wondering if you can do the same with the stick-ons?  Has anybody tried it?

I gotta think it would look better.

I don't understand why they went to the stick-ons in the first place. They're too thick to finish over, so it ends up looking cheap, if you ask me. I wouldn't put one on, and that's not good for Warmoth or the customer. They don't get their name out because who wants to spend $1,000-$2,000 dollars building a guitar and then put a sticker on it? What is this, Pokemon or Rock-Star Barbie? Even the low-end Pacific Rim makers aren't that cheesy.

I use the metal logos instead...

You can get them in black, chrome, or gold to match your hardware and there's nothing to trim - the letters are discrete. At least with those, it looks like you did it on purpose to create an effect. The only problem with them is the "Made in USA" part is much too flimsy, so you only have about a 20% chance or less of getting it to transfer without damage. After about 12-15 tries, I've only gotten one to work and that was on a neck with a gloss finish, and even then I had to fight it tooth, fang and claw to get it on right.

You can see the difference between the stick-ons and the sliders from the photo.  The strat has a slider under the lacquer and the tele has a stick-on under the poly.  The edges of the stick-on still show because the vinyl's too thick.  I think I should've trimmed it as well.  Oh well, B.L.N.T.

Cagey, where do you get those metal logos?  They look amazing on that headstock!

The last 3 are all that style.

I should maybe have actually looked at the Warmoth site before asking that...  Does anyone know where you could get custom decals like this made?

One of the Warmoth guys offered to tell us where they get theirs, but cautioned that there's a 1,000 piece minimum order quantity. Makes sense, because they probably have to make a die to cut the things.

I agree. I wish it were mine. But, I shamelessly cribbed it off the Warmoth site where they use it as an example of how those emblems look installed.
