Tone pot weirdness

So, I've put together this strat. I followed the wiring diagram here:

http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/files/diagrams/3sbm_1v1t_3dpdtonononseriesphase.pdf

Now, when I was done with the wiring, I tried using a multimeter to test connectivity. The signal was doing weird things, but I was getting impatient so I decided to go ahead and put it on, string it up, and see what happened.

What I found was that when I turn the tone up (that is, cut the least out) the sound goes out.  It's the weirdest thing.  When I was testing it out with the multi-meter in my lap, it must have been moving the tone knob, causing the signal to cut in and out.

So, does this mean I need a different tone pot? Or is it more likely that I messed up the wiring?

Sounds like you've grounded the first terminal, allowing the tone pot to vary the output impedance.

Hmm.  But the tone knob doesn't affect the volume until that last bit.

Yeah, you probably have an audio taper. Once you get to the last fifth of the rotation, or so, the resistance changes very quickly, and your signal will still come through until a very direct load is placed against it.
