This Warmoth relic could be yours!

Yeah, there's a guy locally who's been advertising a Warmoth VIP body on Craig's List for about 9 months now. Keeps dropping the price, but no takers, because it clearly needs to be stripped and refinished. Lotta work, even for a nice body like that.

what is he down to currently?

Buy it, pull it to pieces and send the body to Tonar for refinishing? Problem solved...  :icon_thumright:

$200. But, you'd pay roughly $700 for the same thing from Warmoth. It's a carved top, and they don't give those babies away. 5A Quilted maple over mahogany. Nice piece. Never assembled. The finish is a cherry burst wreck, and the guy apparently gave up on it.

Nothing to pull apart - it's just a body. But, Tonar isn't going to want to eat his life with stripping, either. He'd want a pile of money, as would anyone. It's not a fun job.

Best way to do this one would be to call it a long-term project. Something you work on when you're bored and restless.

Would media-blasting work?

Dunno. Being of a semi-conservative bent, bordering on Libertarian, I've been blasting the media for years and it hasn't made any difference <grin>

I doubt that sandblasting would work, because basswood is so soft that the raw areas would be potholes by the time you dug through the finished areas. I can't even figure what he used to ruin it so thoroughly - not a disk sander, not a torch... drug-crazed beavers? Woodchucks with an attitude...
Termites on Angel Dust!  :hello2: Hoo-ray, I've got the name for my next hit single....  :hello2:

P.S. I just poked through a few of "bunkmanguitars" purchases and he's buying up bridges, pickups and lumber, so I guess he's an aspiring "luthier." And the trees worldwide cringe in mortal terror.... :o

I'm still in the boat of "Buy a body and a pickguard and rock that shit"

provided this thing costs less than about 250, it looks like a bargain.

I wasn't thinking of sand. I was thinking of glass bead...

I still think a pickguard would need to be modded.  It doesn't look like the fretboard overhang has the pickguard under it, rather the pickguard has been cut to go around it.
