I know that Warmoth stopped making the Warlock-style bodies some time ago, so this looks fishy.

The neck seems authentic, but the body doesn't.  False advertising?  Blatant theft of a trademark?

If you know warmoth used to offer warlock bodies what about this doesn't seem right? The guy seems pretty straight forward with his description and he's not asking an arm and a leg. He's not claiming its a super rare collectors item. I don't see whats wrong with this. I'm not familiar with the warmoth warlock so I can't say it looks wrong or fake. I don't know what to look for. I just don't see anything to make me not think it is. Maybe somebody else could jump in.

The parts have the appropriate Warmoth emblems, which are burned in and therefore not easy to fake. Andy may have taken the seller's claim that they're "new" to mean they were just made, which can't be true. But, they could be parts the guy bought and stashed in the closet with future plans. They'd still be new, but probably more accurately called "NOS" (New Old Stock).

Well, if I am wrong, then no harm done.

The logo in the neck pocket of the body doesn't look like those on the Warmoth site, so that is why I raised the red flag.
Nobody should take credit for another's trademark.

If it is indeed an a real Old Stock Warlock body, I may actually be interested!

Warmoth's logo burning/imprint tool either suffers wear or operator-based inconsistent usage or both. I've got bodies/necks here from them that were barely embossed, and others, like the last few, that looked like something had changed because the logos and text were quite clearly stamped with something hot. For instance, this is a newer part (this month)...

You can see how well-defined the the Turtle is there. I mean, it's embossed deep enough that you could probably fill it in with paint or something and make it look sorta like an inlay. The "Warmoth Radius" mark is obviously just a rubber stamp.

Another change I've noticed is they're embossing the part of the heel facing the bridge with a number/letter combination. Not sure what that is, and I didn't take a picture of it. But, mine says "989 SS" or "SS 686", depending which side you call "up". I don't recall ever seeing that before.

That SS ### thing is something I've seen on more than one occasion.

about the body: warmoth ALWAYS drills the holes for the studs unless otherwise specified. Can't imagine that being the case here, so that gets off all my alarmbells. also, the warmoth logo on the body seems to be an ink stamp, not a branded stamp.

My guess is that the body was a blank routed for the bridge & pups.  In one of the pics the sides & bevel look to be lighter than the top, like they're 'fresher'
"The neck and body have not been drilled" is clearly not true, as the body has the holes.
The streaky wood would suggest Poplar.

That logo does not look right.  The outline of the shell is way too thick.  It is off by 90 degrees.  It usually says "Warmoth" in the neck pocket.  Warmoth writes the weight of the body in the neck pocket also.

back in the day they used an ink stamp.  I have an old J-Bass neck with one.  Probably switched to the brand because it was harder to sand off  :icon_biggrin:

I've seen 90 degree Turtle-only pocket markers in the showcase.

I think ol' Andy's just having an anxiety attack because he really wants that thing, so he wants his tummy rubbed <grin>

My VW body has the rubber stamp Turtle, looks legit to me... :dontknow:

Hey, I have an idea!  I'm sure there are people here who either currently work for Warmoth or have worked for them in the past...HOW'BOUT IF WE GET AN ANSWER FROM THEM.  :dontknow:

No anxiety ... but I did own a BC Rich Warlock at one time that was unfortunately a POS.  It would be fun to recreate something from all those years ago with better parts ...  :icon_biggrin: and I'm sure one of my dogs would be more than happy to accept the tummy rub offer!

That's kinda why I started this thread.  Several (if not all) Warmoth employees post on this site.

I first heard of Warmoth when I read about them in "Guitar" magazine from the late 1980s/early 1990s.  I just wrote them of as some hack of a "kit guitar" company, as many people probably still do.  Well, the internet wasn't around back then, so I don't even know what was offered as far as body styles.  I'm not going to be much help.  :help:

Ironically enough, what lead me to Warmoth was me wanting a Custom Shop Warlock...until I priced one to slightly over $5600.   I thought to myself, "Okay, that's outta the question, so it looks like I am not going to get the dream guitar I've always wanted."  Then I thought to myself, "Where can I get an American-made, custom guitar at a somewhat affordable price?"  I remembered those "Warmoth" ads in those magazines from long ago.  Well, now that we have the internet, I did some research, and here I am.  :headbang1:

Within the past 6-8 months I had the opportunity to play that "dream guitar" when I came across one in a store, and it was the biggest POS on the planet.  There it sat, the B.C. Rich Custom Shop Warlock, with a sticker of $3500.  While it wasn't to the specs that I'd want, I couldn't help but to sit down with it.  I spent about 3 minutes with it.  Within that 3 minutes a knob fell off in my hand, after the knob fell off I saw why; the pot was jammed in there crooked, the routing was sloppy and there was a HUGE gap around the pot, the frets were sharp, didn't shine, and looked more like coat-hanger wire than frets.  It didn't stop there; the strings pinged and fret buzz was crazy, and the sound was more akin to a choking buzzard than a guitar.  :(

Well, FWIW, I hope it turns out to be a real Warmoth body, because I would've loved to have a Warlock-styled Warmoth.
