Third Warmoth; First Post

Hey everyone,

I have lurked for a while and very much enjoyed all the posts in this forum.  It has been humbling to say the least to see how creative everyone is and all the beautiful guitars that are out there!  It certainly hasn't helped my GAS attacks.

My first Warmoth was a soloist style that I built up in the early '90s.  It was well loved and eventually sold off to a friend who simply insisted on it.  My second was built around 2000 and is a lovely blue burst Strat style that I'm currently working on fancying up and upgrading.  I'll post photos of that in a week or two, as soon as I get a few parts in and get it back together.

For my third I wanted a SSS Strat made from mahogany or Korina that had a bit more of a classic or rustic look yet also something not so common as the usual red/yellow bursts.  I had wanted to put a set of D. Allen '69 VooDoo pickups into a body for a while now and thought this was the opportunity.  I was playing around with various colors and styles using the Body Builder for weeks but just couldn't decide on top wood and color scheme.  I eventually took a look through the bodies Warmoth had In Stock and as soon as I saw this one I knew it was the body I wanted.  The darker Dragon Burst on Korina was just perfect.  Here is the result:

Body:
Warmoth Chambered Strat
Black Korina on Black Korina
Dragon Burst
Routed standard SSS

Neck:
RH Reverse CBS
24 3/4" Scale Pro Conversion
Maple on Maple
1 5/8" Graphtech Black TUSQ nut
Wizard contour
Stainless 6100 frets
Warmoth radius
Vintage Tint Nitro finish (I buffed and glossed the headstock face).

Hardware, etc.:
Hipshot locking tuners (with A12 buttons to and some color)
D. Allen '69 VooDoo pickups
Bakelite pickguard
Wilkinson VSVG tremolo
Schaller strap locks

It was hard to get good photos under artificial light.  Here is my best attempt.

I had the hardest time deciding on the pickguard for this one.  I tried a standard gloss black (I even colored the white border to a dark green as it was a B/W/B layered), a black brushed aluminum, a black pearloid, a wood one (from another guitar) and was on the verge of ordering a matte black version from Warmoth when I stumbled across this bakelite one on eBay and gave it a shot.  I certainly like it the best out of all that I tried, even though it is a tad busy.  I like how it adds a little funkiness to the whole package without looking too modern.

Welcome aboard.

Cool  :icon_thumright: ... really like that pickguard with the aged cream bits.

Should sound great with strings on  :laughing7:  :icon_jokercolor:

:rock-on:

Something strange and different about that one, and I really like the 'feel' of it! Murray's right (!)
the cream parts look really good surrounded by the darkness of the rest of the piece. Nice!

Strange and different indeed!  Well put and thanks to all for the kind words.

I'm working on re-re-building my blue Warmoth today.  I'll put up some photos when she is done.  :eek:ccasion14:

Hey, welcome to the forum. Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor on the day you joined, I can tell you!
