No,  wood finish is effected by the skill of the person applying it.

Sure. Many guitars don't have laminated tops, but have gloss finishes. Color doesn't matter. In fact, I'd go so far as to say most guitars are made that way.

Laminated tops are done to show off the grain on the laminate without the expense of using a solid piece of the lam wooe
