Fender Select Telecaster® HH
Model : 0170315
$2,999.99MSRP

Hahaha, I understand.

Fender: $2,999
Warmoth: Probably $1,200 for everything, PLUS you get the fun of customizing every last detail and putting it together yourself. I don't really know how people buy guitars that aren't Warmoths  :dontknow:

Yeah, I'll never buy a mass-produced electric guitar ever again (at least not a new one).

Dat Mark-Up......

Well for the same price as a american p bass/j bass/rickenbacker/ *Cough* T-Bird/ and less than a boutique bass i can get the bass i want, at a damn fine price.

Screw mass market basses. Screw them all!  :evil4: :headbang1:

I do like Ibanez basses, but since I'm not a bass player, I don't expect to be buying one.

Well, GOL-LEE, where d'ya s'pose Fender picked up on the idea of black korina bodies?? :icon_tongue:

This for $14,999?  :tard: it's basically just a stereotypical sunburst strat someone damaged on purpose. I hate "roadworn" guitars!

I need to know if the frets are worn too?! :sad1:

Yeah i mean theres a few I wouldn't mind having a Warwick Stryker I tried years ago in Manchester would have been amazing, but the price and my lack of playing ability stopped it being feesable. Still isn't plus they're discontinued. But maybe one day ill get a well kept pre owned one.

Fender desperately wants to go public. Offering these big-ticket items and swallowing up every brand they can find makes them look like a very sound investment.

That's the problem with Fender.

I saw one of these at Sam Ash a while back.  It had chrome hardware instead of gold (thank the lord), and it was quite lovely to behold, but at $3000, I could build not only that (and in the color of my choice and with a satin neck instead of gloss) AND a Warmoth version of this one from the same series (also $3k) and still have money left over to buy cases and maybe a pedal or two.

I'm not going back to off the shelf guitars.  No way.

Going public?  Maybe there are some really nieve fund managers out there who'll buy Fender, but not if they've been watching the guitar market.

The only non Warmoth or hand builts I look at are Hollowbody's (gretsch , benedetto etc) .

I  find the crazy prices on fancy fenders to be a joke

Fender was gung-ho for IPO for a while but just a couple of months back withdrew their plans. It's going to happen, it's just a question of when.

WHEN it happens, say goodbye to anything remotely resembling current quality.

Of course they were gung-ho. Mr. Thomas thought "IPO" stood for "Incredible Pipe-dream Offering". Once everybody stopped laughing, he said "Never mind!" and blamed the lack of response to his dream on "Poor market conditions". Yeah. Something like that, Larry.

Sales are dropping, margins are thin, their debt is stratospheric (no pun intended), and their main marketing arm (Guitar Center) has been losing money annually since 2007, at least. Then, as if all that wasn't enough, they overpriced the stock. I'm no Harvard Business major, but even I wouldn't have tried that move.

Like you, I'm sure something is going to happen, but I'm not worried about product quality loss.

I heard that for 2014, Fender will be adding a new model to their "roadworn" line. The new model will contain severe termite damage. Fender did a lot of research on termites and determined an "optimal" termite damage pattern to chamber the guitar for the ultimate tone! The cost? Well, posing as a "seasoned road warrior" doesn't come without cost, my friend. However, when you factor in the amount of research—not to mention the ego boost and possible increase in your penis size—the $89,000 price tag is well worth it. Still on the fence? Well, you don't have to be because it comes with a shredded old case that smells like feet (black moldy case upgrade available) and a... wait for it... certificate of authenticity!!!  :hello2:

Seriously, if you were to run for president, I would vote for you. I'm on another forum where it seems like nearly every member is taking a chisel and sander to their guitar. To speak against it is akin to pointing out the emperor's nakedness. Call me crazy, but I want my guitar to look nice—not like it was run over by a truck. People will judge solely on the playing anyway—not by how many dings you have.

I've been playing out professionally now for nearly 20 years; keys, guitar and bass. I was a big MM Stingray bass guy for a long time. Had two 1977 BOO basses. Then got a couple anniversary models. I went through the gaggle of Strats and Les Pauls for guitars. I went through the whole Fender PJ thing.  Four years ago I started here at Warmoth as their photographer. Built my first W and ......OH MY!! The possibilities are endless. I have two short scale PJ style active basses. One short scale Fretless J bass. Those three are 32". I love them. I've also got one 30" Short Scale J Bass.  They are a joy to play. On the other end of the bass spectrum, I've become a Gecko fanatic. I built one Gecko 5 string and it played so well. It's got a Duncan Music Man pickup in it with 3 band active. It sounds SO GOOD. Then, of course, had to have another two. Guitars include: CherryBurst LP, Sunburst Strat x2, Alpine White Strat, Carve Top Tele x2, SG, and an LPS. All Warmoth guitars in the stable now.

My name is Rob... and I'm a Warmoholic.........HI ROB!!

I have a 2012 American Standard which I got for $1000 that I like a lot. I don't think that's an unreasonable price for that guitar (which also came with a deluxe hardshell case). It would have cost me maybe $850 to build a comparable Warmoth and it's a good quality guitar IMO. My new Warmoth, which I love, cost me $1100 to build (including buying the case). Of course, if it was a Fender, it would have cost $5000+. I think with Fender, once you go past the American Standards in terms of price, you're seriously losing in the price vs quality ratio.

This entirely. Once you hit anything associated with the Custom Shop you're buying privilege, not a guitar. Anything south of that is what you pay for. I can't remember ever picking up a standard Fender model at any price point and thinking "They want HOW MUCH for this?"

I've never picked up a Custom Shop and NOT asked "What the hell are they thinking?" in terms of pricing. It's insane.
