The one that got away

I have never owned vintage gear.  I've also never sold a piece of gear, with the exception of a Digitech RP200.  I'm much more afraid of seller's regret than buyer's regret. :)

You know...I guess that the "ones that got away"...have been "replaced". I mean...I have a very cool 1982 Gibson Les Paul in Candy Apple Red w/EMG 85/81 that I'm very happy to own. I've got my Kramer E.E. SC-3. I am currently working on another Kramer Tele Project...so...I suppose it was "under duress" that  I had to let a couple of Kramers go that I'd like to have retained...but...I've obtained a couple of other guitars that are equally enjoyed! Kind of the "Circle of Life/Guitars" thing I suppose.  :toothy10:

I'll have to dig for the pic. I had one of the original Washburn Dimbag Darrel Signature models that was signed by Dime himself.  The guitar itself played well but sounded like crap.  I got rid of it about 6 months before he died.

ehem...YOU CRAZY FOOL! Assuming it was a U.S.A. I'm always on the lookout for one of those guys. The U.S.A. Dime Bolt is pretty expensive, even if they're beat up.

I had an ESP M-II deluxe that I sold freshman year in college...for...NO! I'm ashamed to say how little I sold it for... :sad1:
"The folly of yoot"...That and smashing this really cool combo amp I had...
HAHAHA last day of freshman year we threw it off the top floor of the dorms!

I'm thinking of selling my old ricks right now - perhaps I should reconsider...

IF at all possible reconsider selling Rickys. Keep them in good shape - some models can be a bit fragile, particularly with the headstock and slim neck under pressure from 12 strings - and they will increase in value. You have to judge when the right time is to sell these guitars, they have a unique sound that comes and goes in and out of fashion in recorded music.

Next time some indy/pop/britpop group has a hit with some jangly Ricky guitar on the track, keep an ear open for how many follow the trend. If it does start a trend, then would be the time to sell an old Ricky! :icon_thumright:

Also, things don't seem right at Rickenbacker the company? They have been without an Australian distributor for quite some while, and worldwide they don't seem to be keeping up with moderate demand. ATM, the only way you can buy a new Ricky in Australia, is to either hop ona plane to USA and bring one back (or have a friend in the US you can trust to give some money to, to buy you one) or go through an Asian Distributor who charges like a wounded bull to deliver to Australia.  :icon_scratch:

I used to be of the opinion, "don't sell your sh!t, ever!".

But:

I sold my '89 Norlin-era lefty Les Paul Custom, purchased brand new, which was my main axe during my early band/gig days.

I don't miss it at all.

I also sold my '88 Marshall 100W 2210 head, which was my main rig during my early band/gig days.

I don't miss that, either.

I've sold other crap I've used in the past... Zvex Nanohead, other amps, pedals, geetars, countless crap.

Truth is, I don't miss anything I've sold... well, except the Rockman 1/2 rack unit stuff (still have my X100B Rockman though).

I have far better stuff now than I ever had before.
