Hey guys...

Well, after 4 successful Warmoth builds with my Dad, he's decided to treat himself and make one of his own, to his liking.
Here's a photoshop mock-up of what it's gonna look like.

Specs:
Mahogany 72 Thinline
Double Bound in White
F Hole
Gretsch Knobs
GFS Retrotron Memphis Alnico II gretsch style pickups
Maple 59 Roundback neck
Ebony Board
Mother of Pearl Inlays

I'm sure this one is just gonna be crazy, crazy good.  The GFS retrotrons are wound super low, just like old filtertrons... around 5K or so.  They have a really sweet twang to them, and they're a great bargai too.

A bigsby would look sweet in there.

Most definitely. Also, personally I'd just use regular chrome domes or black speed knobs instead of Gretsch knobs. They look a bit out of place there.

But I stand by the first thought I had when I read the topic of this thread - "I approve!"

That's a whole lot of cool right there. I also agree about the Bigsby and the knobs. The G knobs look a little out of place. Definitely a wicked project though.

+1 on different knobs, and +1 on the whole thing!

And ZGOZZ, he said he used Photoshop. It's what I've used for all of my mockups

I wish my dad played guitar... he's helped me a bit with my projects but he ain't no warmoholic....

Awesome guitar idea two thumbs up  :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: to ur daddio...

How about like this ?

I'd love to put the toggle there, but I don't think Warmoth can do that... if they can, I'd TOTALLY put the toggle switch up in that corner.  Anyone confirm or deny this?

And yeah... me and my dad spoke about it lastnight, we're gonna put Gibson knobs on it instead... but we're keeping it hardtail. Bigsby would look great, but neither one of us really likes trems.

Thanks for all the replies though! this project is gonna rock!

You have to do it yourself, CB did it a while back.  You drill a hole from the neck pickup into the top thinline cavity, and the add a hole for the switch.  Wire up the switch and sneak it in the f holeand i guess with tweezers get the wires through the hole that you put in the neck humbucker route and then they go under the pickup to the bottom thinline cavity.  It sounds like a bunch, but it is really two extra holes and you might have to widen a pre drilled hole from Warmoth.  Look up CB's blue tele (The Blue Flame Tele) he built for Vic (Vic108 on this board)  The original picts that CB put up are not there anymore, but the ones Vic put up are, you can read CB's play by play and see how it turned out.  There were a couple of threads on the guitar.

Gretsch-o-Gib-o-caster  - what is the gib(son) in this?

btw it looks similar to the telesonic that fender put out a few years back.

After thinking about it, we're gonna keep the switch in the regular position, but make it a 3-way toggle. I already bought the gretsch style switch tip too.

Haha, I guess it is more Gretsch than gibson.  The only thing that is gibson-esque about it, is that we're doing mahogany. But it's mainly gretsch.

I just received the GFS Retrotrons today. They *look* great.  Lets hope they sound as good as the look!  According to the specs and clips, they definitely should.

The colour just screams SG to me so that's a bit of Gibson too. ;)

Is that a Gotoh Strat hardtail bridge?  Callaham makes a much better one for about $65USD.  Just saddles for $40ish

Haha. I think it's so funny how everyone's like "yeah, it's a "dad" guitar..."

Just cuz it ain't heavy metal brootalz, doesn't automatically make it a dad's guitar. Heck, I plan on borrowing this guitar for some rock shows!!!  :party07:
