So, I got a tip from a friend today... NC State, the college of my choice, and the only one I applied to, had accepted her, though the site had said nothing would be processed until the 30th. NC State is close, only about 40 minutes away, and has a large selection of programs. My family also has roots there. My great-great grandfather was in the first graduating class, and the other side of the family has a long history of NC State grads.
And, it looks like I made it in as well. I think I'll pursue an engineering degree, and also work in the theater program as a tech. Now, I'm waiting for my best friend to get off work so he can tell me if he got in as well.

Congrats, Max!  These are exciting times for you.  Don't let just any heifer put her paws on your Warmoths, son!

A heifer would have hooves, not paws.  :icon_scratch:

Congrats Max!  Get ready for the best and worst 4 years of your life.  Or 5-8 rather, if you're like any of my friends.  :laughing7:

I think the last time I asked you, you said you had no idea what you wanted to major in when you got to college, but that you wanted to do something music-related.
Apparently you've decided what to do now? Very cool.

Yeah, that was a while ago. I've decided I want a more practical degree, music can be a hobby, or I may pursue a minor in it.

Congrats Max! That's great news. I did chemical engineering originally, I still think it's a good choice - good job opportunity and travel opportunity. Really diverse in terms of office vs field work too. Any engineering degree is a great idea, and even better if you're thinking of adding a "value added" aspect to it, such as biochemistry (I did - although it didn't match my interrests), law (my brother), management or admin, or even computer sci... Hell, even the music industry needs ppl to design amps, soundboards, sound proof rooms, concert halls, mobile stages etc. The only regret I have in university was not picking (off the bat) something I would be happy doing for 60hrs a week. A degree should be at least as much for yourself as it is for the opportunities it gives you.

Congrats! Anyone who can pull off projects like you have at your age is in for great things.

Congratulations Max. You will have the time of your life. Just don't go letting anyone there changing your way of thinking. We like you the way you are.

Good news and very happy you are on your way up! Lots of work ahead tho, but it will be worth it.

Oh and those College parties.........

+1 on any engineering degree.  I also got my degree in chemical engineering.  Now I'm working as an electrical engineer.  Congrats Max and good luck!

Hey, good for you! And remember, if you're the same person when you're done as when you started you've done it all wrong. Enjoy, university can be a lot of fun!

There is a time and a place for everything, Max. It's called college. Go get 'em!javascript:void(0);

Max, college prepares you for Life in a way nothing else can.
what you learn may not be what you choose to do, but it gives you the basis to go out and achieve what you want.
I majored in European History, I never even considered a job in the field,
Go have a blast, learn what you want to learn, but more than that use it as a step into a successful life.

My advice:

Far more important than a college education is who you know.

A sheepskin might get you an interview, but networking will get you in the door.

Well, I just found out that my best friend since 6th grade is on the waiting list, so he only has an 11% chance of getting in. He'll probably take an offer from Florida, and that'll be quite the change for us. We're used to hanging out every weekend.

Congratulations, Max - it's been made abundantly clear throughout the forum that you have more than adequate intellectual skills (and curiosity, and wit) to really make a solid go of college, and to get a lot out of it.  Sorry to hear your friend will probably not attend with you - but it is through such significant changes that you realize opportunities.  You will establish new friendships forged in the common experience of your undergrad years, and then you get to do it again in grad school,or a career, and certainly through music and theater.  NC State won when they got your application, and you'll win when you get to NC State.

Hey that's not great about your buddy, but look at it this way:

He will settle in and gain some new freinds, so too will you, then when you are both on breaks from College you can chose between the NC crowd and the Florida crowd.......widens your options for a good time I say! :cool01:

Maybe one break he will come back home and chill out with your crowd, then another you can go to Florida and meet his....? :eek:ccasion14:
