Here is a recent video of Bob Taylor's Ebony project. See the people behind the wood...

I have posted this much earlier video before but for those, who may not have seen it here we are...

What a remarkable and forward thinking individual in a position to become a steward. Bravo. I am a staunch supporter of sustainable wood practices and openness to what may be nontraditional woods. Wood is nature and nature is made of variants. Changing past practice is one thing, dealing with China's widespread use and support of poaching of wood is another matter, and making sustainability work is another. Coffee has already been working on this with forward thinking collectives that ensure producers and not just middle men see a profit and sustainable land management is implemented. And frankly I would not mind seeing fewer guitar makers matching actual market demand. In the UK there are small guitar makers using nontraditional woods for electric guitars. Thanks for posting these videos.

@musicispeace thanks for your comment and I am glad you enjoyed the videos.

And yes we need to look after the planet on which we live.

While I don't agree with the bulk of Bob Taylor's politics or the way he builds most of his guitars, I do heartily applaud his moves here on the subject of ebony. Martin has been dying their ebony boards for years. No one cared. Using colored ebony? Sounds good, why should anyone care about the color? Planting new ebony trees? Damn good idea. Martin has been around forever and SHOULD have been doing this back in the 60's. In fact, guitar making industry as a whole should have done this years ago to insure continued raw material for the future market.
