It's honestly not that big a deal, but I'm wondering if I can do anything to even out the discoloration on this pickguard. When I got it, it still had the plastic covering with the store's stickers there.

And while I've got the thread open, how about some opinions on removing the body's finish? My only finishing experience was coating my W Strat body in tung oil.

That's a Squire, so it's got a urethane finish. Removing that stuff is a nightmare. Most strippers won't work. Methylene Chloride might, if you can find it. You could also grind it off if you've got a LOT of time and sandpaper, but be aware that it's a LOT of work and you'll curse the day you started down that road. You're better off selling the body and buying a raw one ready for finish.

You could try the finer wet/dry papers wet then rubbing compound .
On the body i doubt you will find anything of a wood score. How about dulling the poly to a satin;

You can do this to the neck;

Get Ken at http://www.roadhousepickups.com/index.html to wind you a new P/UP.
It will only cost you time a pickup (your biggest cash slpash) some papers & cutting compound. :rock-on:

I had the same beastie-

and managed to get it down to this-

by rough sanding the paint to get a little extra surface area, layering on some standard water based paint stripper, leaving for 40 mins, scraping, repeating 2-3 times, then sanding like a lunatic to the bare wood.
It wasn't fun, but it can be done and the results were pretty good in the end. Don't let anyone put you off modding a Squier, it's always an awesome adventure in my humble opinion.
(mine ended up a Bass VI

Woweee. Is that the same neck with a new nut?

I might be happy-ish with just the un-glossing. Gloss sucks.

Yup, same neck. New nut, filled the machine head holes, reshaped it for a straight string-pull, and the blocks are stickers. I love the neck on this thing! If you find an easier way to strip this, let me know- I'm thinking of making another one in Sherwood Green with 3 single coil pups (when i've finished my Warmoth VI.... :D :D :D :D)
