Anyone ever use or install one of these.  I've been toying with the idea for a while, just wanted to see what you guys knew.

I'm itching to install one, I've only played them on OPG's (Other Peoples Guitars).
Someone on the Sevenstring.org forum had a 7 string system up for sale that they yanked from their guitar, & it sold almost the second it hit the forum.

I would definitely like to try a sustainer some day, but apparently they take up a lot of real estate in the rout...  Not sure if they'd fit in a standard warmoth rear rout, especially on some of the more radical styles (V's and such), and I don't have the tools to rout anything myself....

...yet.  :icon_biggrin:

Never fitted one to a guitar nor do I own one. But i monkeyed around with one on a Fernandes guitar in a shop for a while once.  Great fun, and sounded great, it had a standard and octave mode.  Standard mode, if you sustain a note it 'plays' at the same pitch as the original note.  Octave mode, if you play a note the sustainer forces it up an octave to get that 'big amp feedback' sound.  Very cool effect.
However, in my opinion, it is just that an effect.  If you over use it could become a bit 'boring'.  Unless you are Steve Vai, or play some kind of ambient music it could become a bit tedious.
And it takes up a pickup space, usually the neck position.

With all that said, you may be a million time more creative than I, and come with some cool stuff.
You should definitely try one out.  Find a local Fernandes dealer.

Just my tuppence

it seems like a cool thing to have if you record and you've got a bunch of guitars already for different sounds. If I were to get one it would have to go in a special guitar - - probably something with a very high output bridge pickup and a Floyd Rose. Then that could be my "stunt guitar" hehehe.

The idea sounds pretty cool.  I've been trying to figure out what to do with the battery box route in the WGD I scored off of ebay.  It's routed for triple humbuckers.  This might just be the ticket for the neck slot.

Jackson has one in their Phil Collen sig guitar.

If you have a home studio ala PODs or GNX units, I think it would be very handy for accomplishing sustain/feedback that you would otherwise need a cabinet for.

I know a couple of people who can manage it very well.

I'd probably have to invest some time to learn how to use it, but it might give me a reason to plug my GNX4 back in.

I've installed a couple, the last one on a hollow Padauk Warmoth strat. I would recommend carefully thinning the area where the circuit board sits in the cavity; the top is a tiny bit too thick for the thread length of the mini switches.

Electronically, it's a breeze, as there is no soldering necessary unless you're putting in a middle pickup, and even then the instructions are more than clear enough.

It's a lot of fun, and like many of us, a lack of spare time keeps me from fully learning and exploiting it. But I'm still glad I have it.

Sold!  I just placed an order for one.  Appreciate your tips.  This will go into a black korina WGD routed for triple humbuckers.  Still undecided on pups for the middle and bridge positions, however.  I've got an X2N and an old Megadrive lying around.  I've got a few others lying around, as well....

You're installing a videogame in your guitar?!  :tard:

Hehe, sorry, I think european gamers are the only ones to get that, but I couldn't resist  :icon_biggrin:

I'm pretty much sold as well.  Now I just need to get a new guitar built to put one in : ).  Maybe a triple humbucker LP or VIP...hmmm

Be aware that the FSK-401, which has two mini-switches and more options, has a single-coil size driver. The FSK-101 has the humbucker, but a simpler control set.

You can just buy both and sell off the 101 and single-coil driver...

Be sure to update me on the install.  My next build is going to be a strat build with a bunch of parts (pretty much everything i've replaced) on my mim strat,  all i need is a great body and neck to finish it off.  after that i want to do an LP, which will have the sustainer.  I think i might go with the sustainiac because from what i read the batteries last a lot longer on those than the fernandes model.  i'd just like your input on how tough it is to install one.
