Suggestion on Seymour Duncan set...

`Well, my Jazz pickup measures 7.1k. It is advertised at 7.72k, so I wonder if that makes a tonal difference that can actually be heard.  :dontknow:
 
I've done the SH-6 (Duncan Distortion) and the jazz in the neck a few times. That sounds pretty good, nice, raw distortion in the bridge and it cleans up really well in the neck.
 
I like loud bridge pickups and here's why:

I've never found a bridge pickup I thought was too loud or two bassy. They always seem too quiet and too whiney... I almost never use them clean. When you have a freaking strong bridge pickup, you do lose some chime and balance in the middle position though so you don't want a huge mismatch. But I do see reason for a powerful bridge pickup not just for the power but also to keep it from being ice-picky.

Well......I've found "loud" bridge pickups to sound muddy. I like to let the amp do the work, rather than the pickup. Sure, if you have an old low-gain amp, then you need a "hot" pickup to push it into searing distortion, but today's amps have so much preamp gain available, that this becomes a non issue.

Hot pickups are also more likely to squeal at high volumes, and create more "hiss" (noise) coming from the amp, in which case a noise gate becomes necessary.

I definitely prefer the more "open" sound of a lower or medium-output pickup. I've never had to use a noise gate.

To each his own though.

For the pickup I need this guitar to be really aggressive I do death metal first and that's what I play with others.  The blues stuff I play for myself alone at home.  So I need to be sure a bout the heavy stuff before the bluesy stuff.  I was concerned about this mix because one is high outpu and the other is a low output pickup.  I was wondering if this would be trouble in the future or it doesn't matter..

I didn't have time to go on SD site today I'll look into it more tomorrow if times allow..

Not sure about the invader. I friend on mine has a Jackson mahogany soloist with a SD 59 neck, and and Dimebucker bridge. Seymour Duncan say this is Dimebag's preferred setup. Not sure about that, but it sounds awesome. Pretty much clean P.A.F tone in the neck, a dirty bridge with enough highs, and a nice mix of the two when both are selected.

The dimebucker has a bit more treble bite and clarity than an SH-8 Invader. You may have to adjust the pickup height if you go with this combo, as the dimebucker is higher output.
 
when Im done with this build (if I ever receive the parts that is) I might the invader on a baritone build..
