I have a paddle headstock, without angle, on a les paul. the strings keep popping out of the nut (because of the angle of the string after the nut to the tuner).I already used staggered tuners, didnt work. the retainerbar worked ok for popping out, but resulted in huge tuning problems.

what is a good way to solve this problem?

The nut slots are not shaped correctly.  If it were mine I'd take it to the shop

do you guys really think that having deeper slots will solve the problem?

my final and last resort is to throw this nut away, buy a locking nut and a finetuning tailpiece and use that for tuning. I've got another thing coming for this problem, but thats hard to describe :P its putting a retainerbar on top of the earvana compensated nut. that nut has to be screwed down anyway, so it makes no difference. I hope that gives at least SOME pressure, but I dont thinnk so, though...

Definitely sounds like bad nut slots.  Check out this article from Frank Ford, I know it's three pages of info but it's really good.
