String Ferrules

I have a set of 5/16" string ferrules.  Should I widen my string through holes on the back or will they tap into place without damaging the finish?

Neither.  Use the soldering iron trick.  Heat them up with a hot iron for 20 seconds or so, place them with pliers, then push them in with a phillips screwdriver.  They'll just go in... and stay in.  :icon_thumright:

Do every second one so you don't get heat build up in one spot.

no matter what I do I can't get this to work.  I even used a 5/16" drill bit and reamed the holes.  How hot do you have to get the ferrules?

hmmm - not that hot actually.  They are too hot to touch, but certainly not solder melting hot.

had to use the rubber hammer...it's done...but it was kinda scary.

I'd get it hot and push it into place with a phillips head screwdriver, then tap it with a rubber mallet. reheat it and keep going.

it's done anyway.
