String Ferrules - Who makes good ones?

It's time to buy a set of string ferrules.  So, who makes the good ones?  And what are your thoughts as to chrome vs. nickel finish?

I'd say the ferrules Warmoth sells are most likely to fit the bodies Warmoth sells... and in the grand scheme, (a) they're on the back of the guitar, so cosmetics may not be a primary concern, and (b) they are unlikely to have any discernible sonic difference anyway, except that "I paid top dollar for vintage-correct nickel ferrules, and they sound so awesome" variety of self-deception.  I'd say go with chrome unless you're shooting for a vintage-y vibe.

I have to say, I've never ever worried about the quality of string ferrules for either cosmetic or tone.

The ones that warmoth sells are fine, as are the ones that all parts, stu-mac, WD Music, etc sell.  I've used them all and they all are just fine to me.

Gotta agree with the fellas above.  If using a ferrule, that's a giveaway there's a breakover angle and more pressure on the bridge for all the grail like things that we obsess about.  I've never thought twice about the tonal properties of a ferrule.  I'm more concerned with countersunk or not, but really couldn't care less.

I've got a tougher question for you.  Who makes the bad ones?

Good ones? Fender Original Series 5/16" nickel string ferrules for Tele/Strat. Part # 099-4918-000. Generally less than $10.00, includes shipping.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I fully agree that the ferrules should have absolutely nothing to do with the tone/sound quality of the guitar.  My concern is with ensuring the finish of the ferrules won't chip as a result of the installation or even use down the road.  It appears that as no one seems to have had any problems, I can get most any of the various products out there and be okay.
