Strat build tremolo question

Hi all,

I am a newbie here and actually planning to build my first strat. Also looking to learn from all of you. Since I have/played Ibby and Jackson, I am not very familiar with Strat vintage tremolo, American Standard tremolo, Callaham, Willkinson etc.

While I am not looking for another floyd/edge equiped instrument I need to ask what of the above mentioned tremolos would be a good/stabile choice for moderate use? If it matters, fret radius will be 16, with 1 3/4 nut width.

I googled quite a while and there is plenty of info, but if anybody has first hand experience to share that would be great.

If the topic is in a wrong thread, my apologies.

Thanks much.

I think the wilkinson is the tremolo that would suit you. Its not designed to be wanked on like a floyd but works great. Ive never owned one but the ones I have used were smooth and had a nice range. With a graphite or roller nut im sure it would stay in tune just fine.

You don't have to do a Vintage Trem on a Strat unless you just want to.  Warmoth can do a Floyd or Kahler if into a locking trem.  They can even do no trem.

Thanks Super . . . but the thing is for years I have been playing on guitars with such trems. You know 80's vibe. And after a long break now I realised that I am not into that so much. I do enjoy the whole shred/floyd thing, from time to time, but more and more I have been interested in "Strat" story. I guess it comes with passage of time :icon_biggrin:.

So, apart from the nut width and radius, I would like to try to stay on the proper/vintage side of things.

You'll get the best tone, quality and "mojo" from a Callaham 6-holer.

I have a Wilkinson whammy with a compound radius neck...1 11/16 nut...no issues.
