Strap buttons on warmoth bodies

Hi, quick question: are the holes for the strap buttons pre-drilled on warmoth bodies? My guess is they are .. but I'm not sure..

Thanks!

Where were you getting the notion that they would be pre-drilled??

The only drilling Warmoth does is for bridges and necks.
Everything else is highly a personal preference that varies based on what you do with the build.

If the thought of drilling the strap button holes really freaks you out, you need to practice with a drill till you are very comfortable - drilling pilot holes for tuner screws and string trees is much more demanding. These are not kits, they are parts that require careful assembly and some good basic knowledge.

Oh yeah, like I said in another post, not too many things get your heart racing like standing there over your guitar getting ready to drill that first hole. Then again, not too many things are as satisfying as sitting there playing a guitar that you basically built yourself.

I'm just wondering .. It's not going to be easy for me to get the positioning just right. I just assumed they did it since they drill all the other holes in the guitar, and I don't suppose it's too difficult a job for the experts at warmoth to accomplish. Plus, I havn't seen any information regarding this on the warmoth site.

Thanks!

The strap pin holes are the easy ones. Wait until you get into drilling the holes for the tuning key screws. Man, mess that up and your keys are not straight.

As for the strap pin screws may I offer up a suggestion? If your body is 2 piece you should be able to see the line where the pieces are put together on the back end of the guitar. I would suggest NOT drilling on that line, even though it is the dead center. My personal preference is to go above it. But going below is an option too. You don't have to go too far, just don't drill into the seam.

What I do is take a piece of masking tape and put it on that back end. I then measure the distance front to back and mark the center on the tape. I then proceed to drill right next to that mark I made on the edge of the tape. Do the same thing on the horn. You can look at another guitar to get the right area then tape it, measure, and drill.

Great, you should ask for a good luthier to put the parts together, then...

:icon_scratch: Why would it not be easy to get the positioning right?
That's about the easiest part, because they can go anywhere you want them.

Like I said, they don't drill any other holes except for the bridge and neck.
Pickguards, outputs jacks, strap buttons, you have to do all that yourself.

Not everyone likes the strap buttons in the same places btw.
Some guys mount the bottom one in the center, some off toward the bass side.
Some guys put the top strap button on the tip of the upper horn, and some like it on the back of the horn.
Even the angle that the strap button gets mounted can vary. Some do it angled in more toward the neck, and some just mount it straight so it comes out parallel to the neck.

Trying to drill for strap buttons would be problematic, as not everyone would be on board with the locations Warmoth would choose to drill them.

i haven't even drilled the holes in my warmoth for strap buttons  :laughing11:  and i finished it about 3 weeks ago. makes me nervous!
