steinberger gearless tuners

Awhile ago I ran across these things in a StewMac catalog boasting 40:1 tuning. anyone know anything about them?

I think they look kind of cool. Wouldn't put them on a strat or LP though.
 
I read from someone..maybe here that his got loose or did not work properly over time...+1 to ugly. they look like banjo tuners.

They're ugly in person too.  =[

Of course, this is highly subjective.  The guy who had them liked them, for both looks and functionality.
 
I think they would be great on a Gibson fire bird.

ok, Schmoop, Ill give you that. they look ok on a firebird but that thing uses banjo tuners anyway, dosnt it?

yep firebird was the original thought. but i also have a pair of Parkers which came with real cheap machines. But i can't justify the money for those tuners unless I upgrade the pickups too.
 
What kind of Parker's do you have? I just had some fun upgrading some stuff on my P-42. They did not want me to change anything on this guitar.
