Splitting HSH, best options?

I'm ordering a HSH guitar and wanted to know what the best choice for coil splitting was! It will have one tone, one volume and a 5 way.

I could get push-pull pots but I find them a bit naff... Well I'd prefer having normal pots. So I guess I could go with a five way switch with that splits them in position two and four. But then I can't have any humbucker+ middle. (does that even make a good sound?)

Btw the pups are SD Jazz, SD five-two for strat, SD JB.

three pickups and only five possible combos - I'd say splitting would be a waste of time. Personal opinion. GO:
1. neck
2. middle
3. neck and bridge
4. middle and bridge (maybe split the bridge here, get a strat #4 sound).
5. bridge.

A megaswitch from stew mac can do that and whatever else you'd want. Not hard to do.

I have a very similar pickup combo (different middle pickup), with a lot more than five possible sounds but I will try to share with you the five best, since the stew mac 5 way seems to be a popular option.

Ok I lied. Six combos. I find that the JB sounds ok :tard: when tapped but it isn't doesn't sound like a strat or tele bridge pickup when tapped. It's much better as a rockin bucker. I do like being able to combine it with a single for some added bite and clarity when playing overdriven stuff though. The Jazz however can get much closer to a strat 2/4 sound so definitely plan on splitting that one. It sounds great split by itself as well as with a middle single. My 2c...

The Steve Vai JEM wiring scheme is the best, for what you are trying to accomplish,  and quite simple to do. It uses a standard 5-way switch. You DO need a RW/RP middle pickup though.
