When I was cycling home from work yesterday, I had a brainwave. I knew what my newest project(s) has to be. as ridiculous as it is beautiful!

here it goes.

Quilt maple top from the handpick-section
korina back
FIGURED korina backlam, with maple pinstripe

Purplemist burst finish

purpleheart neck, ebony board, 24.75'' scale, 22 frets, 3 humbuckers, GOLD FLOYD, no locknut, but I do want locking tuners and graphtech nut. the body will get a clearcoat faux binding on the top and back.

NEXT!!!

figured koa top, from the handpick-section, with maple pinstripe
walnut back
figured walnut backlam, with maple pinstripe

wenge neck, ebony board, 24.75'' scale, 22 frets, 3 humbuckers, GOLD FLOYD, no locknut, but I do want locking tuners and graphtech nut. the body will get a clearcoat faux binding on the top and back.

yeah, thats what it will be :) both will be a fatback, by the way, with a 1 11/16'' nut, 6100 frets (huge, huge huge! :D )

it will get my favorite pickups, a stagmag/fullshred-neck hybrid with alnico5 bar under the coils (so it will get 7 magnets; no there won't be stringpull) and the bridge will be a fullshred bridge/duncan distortion hybrid. my 2 favorites! 2 volume, 2 tone, coiltap, and out-of-phase hardwired.

It will be interesting of course.  Love the unique wood choices.  Will W do a back lam?

I would be reluctant to omit the locking nut.  Locking tuners are nice but I have found them more useful during stringing up the axe.  They are not very effective at keeping the strings in tune.  I have used both sperzel and planet waves.  BUT...if you only do light whammy use you may be ok, but if you do moderate/heavy use...you may be upset.

Just my two cents....I made that mistake on the 1st LP I build.

sorry, hate me :D I'll do both.

about the lock nut. I don't use that on the guitars that have it in my collection. I prefer the 'wilkinson' setup, but I like the finetuners and the rugged look of a floyd. I'll be installing a tremel-no and a floyd-blocker, just in case. most of the time i do whobbles only, but sometimes I need to dive. besides. I have a guitar with locking tuners, graphite nut and hipshot trem, and that thing stays super-in tune. except with huge divebombs, but imho, thats due to the bridge itself. and if I don't like it, I can alway screw on a locking nut, right?

ps: did I mention that I'll be using the handpick section for my fretboards, and that I'll have a flamed KOA peghead veneer and a quilt maple veneer? colored to match the body. DOH.

But I'll watch anything you bring to the table, just don't let it out of your sight :icon_jokercolor:
