Something new from Fender?

I could swear those are bass strings in this video.

I’ve seen this video and, at the risk of sounding like a fuddy duddy, I don’t for the life of me know what they are trying to convey with the audio. It kind of sounds like Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon. I’m intrigued by what they are unveiling, but confused by this promo.  :dontknow:

It's the new Ultra range, bass and guitars. Contoured heels, skunk stripe is back compared to the elites, truss rod adjustment at the headstock, compound radius but neck profile is now a D shape. Noiseless pickups as the elites, possibly a slightly different switch selection wiring. I think the Strat will have an S1 to add the neck pickup to whatever is selected on the 5 way.

A different set of colours etc compared to the elites.

I'm excited! Can't wait to see what they've come up with.

Is that concentric knob going to find it's way onto a Strat or Tele?

I'm sorry, but it's like Fender & Gibson are learning how to make their own guitars all over again.
At the end of they day, it's still Strats, Tele's, Les Pauls, & SG's.
There's nothing new from them, no new body styles, just re-branding a model name or series on the same old headstock & body shapes, with a hefty price tag.
If I want Strats & Tele's made with stellar quality, I'll defer to Warmoth.

Actually the Fender Meteora is pretty cool.  Electric guitars are still evolving but they will eventually settle in, like the violin.  Remember, the electric guitar as we know it only started in 1952 with the Fender Telecaster (I know you can dispute that, but that's as good a start date as any) so as musical instruments go, our national instrument is still pretty young.

I first thought about that in Okinawa, where the Samisen is ubiquitous, it went thru a thousand years to get to its present point.

Underwhelming don't even begin to accurately describe the depths of boring Fender have just farted out #snorefest2019 #snoozegate2020  "Innovation and Fender" two words further apart in the metaphorical dictionary than apoplexy and zeugma

I gotta take a chill. Lemme just sit back, put up my feet, close my eyes balls, and envision my perfect summer day... I'd be relaxin and maxin on the beach... My skin glistenin, my swimsuit bangin', got a margarita in each hand, George burns is alive and standing there buck naked.

Okay, feeling better

How long before we know if the Ultra Noiseless pickups are the same as the Gen 4 Useless ones?

If Fender is using a contoured neck heel to qualify themselves as "innovative" then then need to get in line, Warmoth beat them to these types of features 20+ years ago.

When they innovate, everyone cries. When they don't, everyone cries. I'm glad that I'm not a manufacturer in today's world. There are so many choices now, there might not be a way to even know what they all are. Plus more availability of customization than ever before.
Having said that, the hype Fender spewed over this is pretty bad. "You will never play the same again" Ummm... okay, man.  :laughing7:

They're not anything too special or unique, but that's what Fender is, and I don't think anyone should complain about Fender sticking with their roots. I don't blame them for trying to up the hype for this new range either. I wasn't really expecting to see Gina Gleeson on that page either.

The "Mocha Burst" Jazzmaster looks crazy nice as well.

I also just noticed that Jazzmaster goes from $2,000 USD to $3,400 AUD here in Australia. Bit expensive...

Yeah this is the heart of why it is so irksome and mildly irritating to me. Doing a "epic" teaser announcement to just end up announcing guitars that are but a micro tweak of the existing paradigm. The paradigm didn't even wobble, let alone shift. Why they gotta front? I don't want no scrubs

Good for her.  She's a great player and deserves some notice.  She probably got a guitar out of it as well :)

Paying no attention to the snark or to Fender's hyperbole.....

I read the full description of the guitar in several places, and read Andy Moon's interview discussing his inspiration for the axe.... It's a reboot (sorta) of the Japanese made Heavy Metal Strat from the 80's (which was a kickass guitar). Ultra noiseless pickups and a super hot humbucker that's tappable. The neck is chunkier, and the body is carved for more comfort on the back and access to the neck. Who can complain about that?

I'm gonna wait until I can play one - and then decide.

But those HM strats had 24 frets. If they did THAT again for deez "ultra" models I'd be singin a different tune, probably one by Louis armstrong since he inspired a lot of my inspiration

I love the stratocaster platform for a parts guitar. It feels like its been strapped on my entire life and no guitar feels as comfortable to me. When I returned to playing I went the partscaster route and have no regrets. For manufactured guitars I like Ibanez, bought one recently, love it. And I like the Chapman line as well. The original companies have not excited me for a very long time. IMO the ownership is wrong for them and maybe they should focus on just making their classics for the everyday player at an approachable price. I guess Fender recently launched some degree of individual order customization, I like that direction better for them. Gibson should go back to making the best LP's, SG's and 335's they can in a diversity of price ranges. If I ever get a flying V at this point I'll happily give Dean my money.
