Hello. I bought an in stock neck on a good discount and it arrived with some issues. Most of them I probably could live with for the price. I bought it not knowing exactly what I'd do with it yet so its not holding up a project.
But.. the tuner holes have some issues that are bothering me. For one, they're the wrong size. I ordered 25/64" and I got I guess 11/32". They measure .330-335". I don't have a tool I'd feel good could enlarge them cleanly and accurately that much.
I could use a set of vintage style tuners I have lying around. They're not my first choice but even those bushings would still need the holes enlarged by .015". I could probably manage this with a hand tool but It never looks clean to me after.
More annoying is that 5 of the 6 tuner holes are badly chipped on the back of the headstock. This really perplexes me. Aren't these cut way early in the process on a CNC with an end mill? These look like they were drilled straight through aggressively by hand on a drill press. Then how could it go out the door like this?
Now I get that if I enlarge holes or fill chips and it doesn't look good it would probably be covered by the tuners anyway, but still…those are mistakes.
There's other quirks too like the nut slot seems narrow its only .115". Dings in places that aren't easy to sand out without altering shapes. The back of the heel isn't flat and it would mess up the logo and markings to sand it flat..
I've owned about a half dozen Warmoth necks at one time or another. I never had one come with any flaws before. As I understand the return policy, I think I'd be out shipping both ways to return it.
Should things like this be expected? What do you all think? Thanks.
