I’m contemplating a new build this spring/summer, and for aesthetic reasons, I want the entire neck to be dark, significantly darker than roasted maple, so I’m considering a solid rosewood neck as a material that is not terribly unusual for a guitar neck. IOW, I’d like to stay with a dark, reasonably mainstream, not particularly exotic wood for the neck, and rosewood seems to fit the bill.
According to the builder, solid rosewood necks don’t have to be finished, which is a characteristic similar to the roasted maple necks that I have experience with. I have burnished my two Warmoth roasted maple necks with Bufflex and Super Assilex, starting at 600 grit and ending at 2000 grit, to get a hard, glasslike finish which I love, and I’d like to have such a burnished finish on this neck as well.
Hence this question: anyone know if a solid rosewood neck can be burnished similarly to a roasted maple neck, and get similar results? Any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
