I'm ashamed to admit I bought it already. I like older Warmoth bodies. Anyway, Im filing a claim. I paid 285.00 total. I haven't heard back from the dude after I showed him this, so that indicates he isn't on the up-and -up.. I'm worried I'll be stuck with it, but usually the return process is pretty strightforward.
If Fleabay won'r approve it, Paypal will, I think.
I wouldn't mind having the body as an Alder body, but not for 285.00

well ebay always sides with the buyer so... good luck anyways and if they dont im sure paypal will , and you will have a free vintage Warmoth body

i would have never payed that much for that body its all beat up maybe $100 at most

I'm not asking for anything free...just want my money back and he can have his body.

Oh, really? Because buying beat up guitars is unheard of ... :icon_biggrin:

One reason to perhaps want a relic is when it is a replica of a well known artists guitar, such as Rory Gallagher's Strat, SRVs Strat, Yngwie's duck, Gilmour's black strat etc.

Its down to the individual at the end of the day and we all gravitate towards different things.

There is a market for new jeans with holes and wear, similar kind of a thing perhaps.

We all get our turn at something in this whole undertaking so I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. You can certainly work on it and see what you can do as a project. This forum is an exception but when I returned to playing after having quit for a long time I learned to view a lot of dudes in the guitar subculture with at first suspicion and then something I now accept as healthy contempt.  :laughing7:

But do try to get paypal or ebay to make this a bit right. And do post a pic of your finished project. If its alder (which the chances are very good that it is) that is not bad grain for alder at all.

I may be punching well after the bell here, but I wouldn't be so certain the body in question isn't Koa. Koa does range in color somewhat, and definitely can look like that. However, it's impossible to tell for sure from the pictures.

OP, if you want to know for sure, I can make you this offer: send it to Warmoth. We will take a look at it first-hand, give you a definitive answer, and send it back on our dime.

You can't go wrong with an offer like that. :icon_thumright:

i like this its like guitar CSI....  let the warmoth team of investigators find out if the body is KOA or not

Yes, thats the plan, thank you. I select pickups based on the body wood, and if this is Koa, I'd use different pickups , probably a different neck, than if it's Alder ( or Maple).

Please make the package "Attn: Aaron", since I'm aware of the situation. Looking forward to unraveling this mystery!

Maybe we should have a poll. Do you think it's Koa, and if not, what do you think it is? Somehow, with the color of some of that streaking, it makes me think of Canary. I have a W bass with a Canary top on Black Korina, I don't know if W ever did solid Canary bodies, but if they ever did that's what I'd put my money on.

If you go here and look at the hundreds of examples of Koa from hundreds of different sources, you will not find a single one that looks anything like what he's got there.

I take that back - there is one...

But, it's not a picture of Koa. It's actually Naio (Myoporum sandwicense) which, while also a Hawaiian tree, is not Koa. It's included in that picture set by mistake due to the search engine's misunderstanding of the site's layout.

+1 on this!  Let's vote!

I won't bother speculating too much one way or the other. We will know soon enough, once we get our hands on it. I will totally vote though....just for fun!

I do agree that most of the Koa I have ever seen doesn't look like the guitar in the OP, but I also know that I see exceptions to all kinds of things, all the time. Go here and you will see this swatch, which is cited as an example of Koa, and looks somewhat similar:

I also found this thread on the Keisel forum. Where this photo is posted:

Apparently we aren't the only guitar players in history to ponder this question.
:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

I also came across this alleged Warmoth Koa currently on Ebay.
It does have some grain going on, but nothing like I have seen out of recent Warmoth...
Also, kinda pricey for such a piece, IMHO!

Hardly. Although, I used to be a lot better. I suffered a traumatic brain injury some years back that blew away a LOT of my memory - I didn't even recognize my mother when I came out of the coma and I had the vocabulary of a 5th grader - plus it broke my short-term memory. That's the part that only keeps things temporarily for immediate use, kinda like the stack in a microprocessor. Means I'll never play chess again, among other things.

Now, Google is my friend. You just need to learn to form queries effectively, and those clever rascals keep improving their algorithms so it returns pertinent answers faster and higher in the probability range all the time.

That sounds like a helluva thing to go through. May I just say you're quite a resource around here and I'm glad we've got you.
