AFAIK they are still in business.. I live a few blocks from the Rockin' Robin shop and go in there pretty frequently. You can see a number of new and used Robin's for sale at their site www.rockinrobinguitars.com.
I've owned a few robin guitars over the years, all of which have been very nice; however, they also make some of the ugliest guitars I have ever seen.. especially during the late 80's early 90s period. Then again, that is partly what is cool about Robin, they aren't afraid to think outside the box and make guitars with odd shapes or strange pickup/electronics ie their frequent use of slanted and reverse slant pickups (sometimes with both orientations on the same guitar).
The Rockin' Robin store was started in the early 70's by two guys, one of whom still owns and runs the shop today. The other guy sold his stake in the store and went on to found Robin guitars and later Allparts =)
IIRC it was one of the original employees from the Robin guitar company who started Rio Grande pickups.
