I'm planning on outfitting an upcoming guitar with a SH-8 (SD Invader) :icon_biggrin:
i'm just wonderin', I have seen a few guitars where there were no pots, just a pickup and an output-jack. I'm ususally playing with everything at max anyway (volume, tone) :party07:
Would soldering the pickup directly to the jack be the same as volume and tone on max settings?
I have the intention of an as-clean-as-possible-look, which means I don't want pots/knobs on the top of my guitar, is it eventually possible to leave the pots inside the rear-rout? :laughing7: I mean, IF it doesn't work out with the pup-to-jack-solution? :tard:

*edit* maybe it would be more fitting in the Wiring and Electronics-section? :laughing7:

Well wiring it directly to the output jack is perfectly doable. But it's going to be brighter than normal, because the volume and tone pots even when they're all the way open affect your tone. So just be aware that if you're used to using that pickup in another guitar through one or more pots, you may have to EQ your amp a little different. Other than that, there's no reason why you can't do it
well. except common sense. (knobs are useful!)

I say, if nothing else, wiring in a tone and volume, and just cram it into the cavity. Nobody ever needs to know!

As stated above, it will sound different without pots than with them, even when set to 10.  The clean look is cool, but even with a single a volume pot it still looks clean.  You could even use a "no load" pot.  At maximum, the pot's value is bypassed giving it the volume and tone as if it had no pot.

I couldn't live without a volume control on the guitar - it's essential to playing live or with other people, in my opinion. Though recently I love my volume pedal more.

Wire it up with no controls, if you decide you don't like it, you can add them in later.

At first I thought, how could I play without a volume, then tfarny chimed in with his briliance, A volume pedal....genius.

would there be enough room in the control cavity for a wireless set-up?  Imagine, no knobs, no jack, and with some peizo saddle pickups, no visible pups

Ooh, I'm gonna do this...

Wire it up with no controls strait to the jack and build a passive tone/volume box with a true bypass switch, that´s what i do with my basses works fine!

would it be possible to place one pot inside the cavity horizontally?

I usually leave the bass on my (OOOOOLD) Peavey backstage 110 at 3/4 out of 10, and the brightness at 10 out of ten. (With gain on max :laughing7:) So i'm happy with my guitar bright-sounding. I'm thinking of a 100%maple soloist :laughing7: anyway, so it will be quite bright :toothy10:

I've seen it on myspace guitar forum/group a few years ago.  It was a Tele with EMGs and had a wireless unit inside the guitar.  The antenna was coming out of the output jack hole.  Besides the normal controls, it had 2 mini toggles.  One to turn off the wireless, the other to turn off the battery for the active pickups.  For the no-pickup look, if there were a lower than 720 mod, you could put the pickups under a pickguard.
