I wonder how that would be when a body is already finihsed and THEN make the tremolo rout?

Wouldn't that make the wood in the tremolo rout unifinished

The smae question goes for finished bodies with option to change the pickup routs!!

For example a SSS strat might have the option to make it Universal, wouldn't that kindof make a big open wood section? That can't be too good!

Yes  .... but then the Trem covers it up :icon_thumright:

On the recessed ones, I like seeing that bit coloured in, ie: Stained or Black or same colour etc etc.
Is that what ya mean ?

If I ever got a Floyd recessed, I'd get a showcase unfinished body, then get it painted after the routing, which is what they do.
To get a finished one means your gunna have to stain / paint etc that recessed area ....

Your second Q ...

Good if you want to change pickup choices.
That would have a Pickguard used, which covers it all up, anyway.

Why can't it be too good? It would make no difference one way or another.

Look at the back side of this your choice trem showcase body.  The trem claw portion is finished.

I thought the OP meant, what happens with the top routing of the trem.

As I was saying, if you got this one as a recessed Floyd.

It wouldn't be painted in the recessed area.

Who really cares about the rear end of the Trem rout anyway  :dontknow:

If you spill something on the guitar with no finish its probably no good. Otherwise it wouldn't make much difference no :)

And yes it's mostly about recessed Floyd and similar, which would look weird having no color under it

They do offer a black dyed cavity option when routing occurs on finished bodies.  Some guys cut up a mouse pad for the recessed Floyd.

Really good idea... I was going to use foam left over after buying new pickups. I like the mousepad thing though

When you just say "mouse pad" plus a question mark, you're not really articulating your issue very well. What's your objection?

Why would you put a mouse pad in the trem rout? Wouldn't that like muffle the guitar tone or something?  :icon_biggrin:

How comes NO factory made guitars have mouse pads in the trem routes? Why would anybody then put a fudging mouse pad in their guitar...

That's a few questions I have regarding mouse pads in a guitar. It sounds so silly

Mouse pads are a ubiquitous source of somewhat dense and easily worked inexpensive black rubber foam.

It won't affect your tone. And before you ask, neither will your strap pegs or headstock decal.

They put foam from a mouse pad it in the recess, which gives the back of the bridge something to crash into when you pull up a long way, so you don't get a knock or damage the wood. It isn't touching anything else during normal playing, so won't affect tone, and it's black so it looks fine.

There's a thread on the matter here:

I know it wouldn't affect the tone, maybe it wasn't clear but I was sort of parodying that if 8 or 11 Strat pickguard screws would have differnt tones :dontknow:

Anyway, the last thing about being a protection is actually a good enough thing to actually have it.

How often do you spill liquids under your pickguard? :dontknow:
