Hey Guys,
I was planning on getting started this weekend on finishing my new SG body to go along with a padauk neck that I'm just going to be using lemon oil on. I got the timbermate mahogany filler from stewmac and was planning on using some Minwax Sedona Red then finish it up with some Tru Oil.
I wanted to ask, I tried using the minwax on a tester piece (not mahogany just a scrap piece of wood) and it looked kinda gummy and I wanted to just use it for a stain rather than a varnish. I heard of a bunch of people using Naptha to thin the finish or is that just for color control and wondering if I should pick some up. I head you're not supposed to sand the minwax before you oil on top but that was the directions from minwax... not pros like you guys.
I live in Arizona so I think I may just need to wipe the excess finish off after like 3 minutes so it doesn't get gunked up.
