sg body vs tele body

I never liked tele's growing up... not sure why, but now I really appreciate the simplicity of the design!!
also, my first 2 guitars were both Japanese SG copies and I loved them! Now I don't like them at all.. I think it is pretty safe to say that I will never ever buy or build an SG!
the same kinda goes for pointy body guitars. somehow I do still like pointy headstocks though, only in certain designs.

I never particularly liked Strats or Teles before I joined this forum.  Whenever I played one, the necks were too big and made my hands tired very quickly, and I thought most of the ones I saw in stores were boring looking.  Then I joined up and saw all the pretty Strats and Teles on the site, and realized I could get a smaller neck for them, and now I love both designs.  Actually, Fernando's spalted Tele was one of the first ones that caught my eye.

That said though, I love SGs!

sounds sweet. i wouldn't know about the pups, but makin your own sounds really cool.
how about finish, hardware, and electronic layout?

I was a teenage tele hater- for most of my life.
The horrible headstock, the dorky body, the general sound. I just couldn't stand how plain jane it felt.

I finally get interested in rockabilly and country and it became the ONLY guitar/sound I'm interested in.
After getting hooked on the distinguished tele twang and sparkly clean, strats began to sound farty and generic.
Don't get me wrong, there are some great strat pickups out there, but I am digging the whole concept of excess trebley guitar now.
I look at like giving a bass more room and more territory while holding down your own half of the spectrum.

Teles can go horribly wrong (mike stern) or they can go superhuman (danny gatton), so I see immediately and respectfully how they could completely rub  you the wrong way.

Everything I originally hated about the telcaster has become everything I love about it, and if people hate it or don't like the flavor, well, that just makes it all the more sweet to me  :guitaristgif:

I was too, and it's funny how many other people can say the same thing, and end up in the same place - wanting one. I guess they're an acquired taste. Either that, or some of us are beginning to tire of the ubiquitous Les Paul and Stratocaster body styles and haven't been attracted to the various ill-advised Rorshach test or amoeba shapes some others have come up with. I mean, after looking at a Gibson Explorer or Flying V, or maybe an IBeenHad XPT700, you gotta start to wonder if somebody didn't spike your cheerios with LSD.

WTF?

After that you look at a Telecaster, and all seems right with the world after all <grin>
