im debating whether to have an sg or tele body on my first warmoth. i currently have a squier tele and the really like the feel of the body. i havent gotten to play an sg much so i dont know how comfertable it is.

also i dont use the upper freets too much so i dont need the sg for fret reach

so just for feel, which do you prefer?

Well, you should try a SG to see what you like better... Tonewise it'll be very different too and you shall think what do you want this guitar to sound like before choose the body design...

tele FTW!!! The warmoth sg's don't have nearly as much good upper fret access as their telecasters. a tele would also balance better.

I don't think playing a Gibson or Epiphone SG would be an accurate comparison to a Warmoth SG.  The biggest differences being the neck joint.  This isn't bolt-on vs. set neck rant, just a statement that the 2 are different.

honestly there are so many teles on here (i'm one to talk - i'm building one) that i would love to see the SG just for the variety. And honestly, an SG with tele hardware/setup would be sexy. especially if you get the right kind of pickguard.

Well if you already have a tele,  isn't the SG an obvious choice?

As much as I love a telecaster, they are a dime a dozen, everywhere, if it was my money, I know what I would choose  :icon_scratch:

:occasion14: so mull it over with a couple of cold ones and let us know when you pull the trigger!!!

Yes, but I meaned more on feel than anything... also he showed so few informations on the first post that I was really thinking it was about a Tele and a SG, each with their own carachteriscs (SC x Hb, etc)

now i want an SG. damn you!

Nothing new for me.
I've wanted and want and will want :
  • SG
  • Tele
  • Strat
  • Jazzmaster
  • VIP
  • LP
  • LP flat top
  • Firebird
  • V - completely and unashamedly inspired by Valentina
  • P bass
  • J bass
  • T bass
  • Maybe even a Tbird

Is it a disease if all these builds are pretty much planned out in my head?
mmm... addiction....
mmm... exotic woods...
mmm...
:help: me.

yeah... honestly as soon as i discovered Warmoth i started obsessing. I've got at least 4 or 5 complete build ideas in my head along with tons of little bits and considerations.
i think in a way, we all get a little satisfaction vicariously through the builds of others. So please, build an SG w/ tele hardware

That's a tough call. They're both comfortable guitars to play, with about equal access to the fretboard. Traditionally, the SG has had a slightly thicker neck, so it's had a more "clubby" feel. Also traditionally, Teles had smaller frets so bends and vibrato weren't as easy. But none of that applies to Warmoth builds because you can get any neck profile and frets you want. So, we're down to body style. Personally, I think the SG is more attractive, but that doesn't mean the Tele is unattractive. It's subjective, like blonds vs. brunettes. But, the Tele is a more substantial body design, which means almost regardless of the wood you use, it's going to have more sustain. On the other hand, you can compensate for that by wood choice in the SG body, and end up with something that might be a little easier to manhandle. So, in the end, you might want to consider that Teles are a dime a dozen (give or take $1,000),  and go for the SG so you have something you don't see nearly as often.

:dontknow: I'm gonna get killed for this but I hate tele's for every reason.  Love the look of an SG and I agree we don't see enough of them. The only advice I can give is pick a heavy wood if you do an SG...they tend to be a bit top heavy and could neck dive which drive's me crazy. Probably not a problem cuz I'll never play your axe but there it is.
I like the idea of Tele set-up just be different though.
